BIOPROCESS ENGINEER
Passionate Bioprocess Engineer with a strong background in bioseparation and a demonstrated record of successfully balancing competing priorities while delivering results. Executive communication and interpersonal skills combined with outstanding analytical ability and noted expertise in demanding, high-performing environments. WORK HISTORY
Modern Meadow, Nutley, NJ
Bio-Process Research Associate II, January 2019 – April 2020 Bio-Process Research Associate I, September 2016 – January 2019
● Designed and constructed two downstream processing pilot plants for both 20L and 200L scale. Extensive research in facility equipment which included spiral wound TFF system, bead-mill, disc-stack centrifuge, plate and frame filter press, tanks with over-head mixers, pumps, plumbing for each piece of equipment and a total enclosure unit to ensure safety and minimize dust nuisance. Lead engineer in charge of evaluation of data to provide essential conditions for scale-up.
● Compiled extensive research to optimize protein purification and recovery process. Specialized in both dead-end and tangential flow filtration (TFF). Extensive research of TFF presented were ceramic, spiral wound, hollow fiber, cassette, stainless steel and dialysis. Dead-end filtration research included cake filtration, depth filtration, cartridge filter, and bag filters. Proficient in various types of lysis including bead-mill, high pressure homogenizer, and enzymatic lysis. Accomplished a scalable product from laboratory to pilot scale.
● Lead coordinator with vendors and filtration company to customize equipment specific to company needs, budget and stringent deadlines. Contributed to lab equipment maintenance and safety to secure a safe, effective and efficient working environment while constantly finding innovative ideas to make each process run faster.
● Conducted innovative experiments to find ways to make the process more concise. Developed more consistent and pure batches by adding polishing filtration steps to remove insoluble materials. Provided the pilot plant with the process to obtain acceptable purity.
● Established SOP and supervised employees on operational equipment to ensure safe operation, corresponding with OSHA to write up PSSR for each piece of equipment.
● Recruited new hires and supervised on the new equipment. Played an active role in technology transfer and plant start-up teams. Facilitate onsite support and aids in troubleshooting manufacturing as needed.
● Purified recombinant collagen using AKTA Pure M1 system with Unicron Software version 7.3
Tri-K Industries Inc., Denville, NJ
Research and Development Chemist, September 2014 – September 2016 Page 2
● Performed laboratory experimentation with proteins, including protein sample preparations from various sources, protein purification, solubilization, quantitation, amino acid profiling and other relevant characterizations.
● Conducted laboratory experimentations and created scale-up tech transfer documents.
● Developed protein production processes and transfer to manufacturing.
● Maintained accurate, detailed, up-to-date, confidential laboratory records and databases of experimental results.
● Prepared and monitored samples for outside research and analytics; maintained accurate records of shipments, tests and related results.
● Purchased, received and tracked all laboratory supplies needed to execute laboratory experiments and minimizes the downtime.
● Presented technical meetings and kept updated on current industry trends and technology, including cosmetics and personal care, biotechnology, bioprocessing and protein chemistry.
● Accomplished two separate patents which will be used for personal care formulation.
● Performed Nitrogen Dumas assay utilizing gas chromatography to analyze nitrogen content for complete nitrogen balance and to determine nitrogen content in the final product. EDUCATION & MEMBERSHIPS
Bachelor of Science Bioprocess Engineering (Cum Laude), 2014 SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry, Syracuse, NY Membership The American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) RESEARCH EXPERIENCE
Sweetwater Energy
Research Project Assistant, 2013
Collaborated on research using polymers to flocculate wood hydrolysate. Performed multiple tests, including viscosity testing, zeta potential, molecular weight, and flocculation rates. Flocculation of wood hydrolysate resulted in a quicker filtration rate and more efficient process. Independent Study
Research Project, 2012
Conducted research utilizing E. coli to improve the enzymatic production of celluloses by optimizing fermentation conditions. Results found that an increment in enzyme production could facilitate a reduction in enzymatic costs, allowing bio-based industries to become more competitive.
