THESIS

Optimization of Read Thresholds in NAND Flash Memory for LDPC Codes September 2019 - Now

• Using maximum mutual information (MMI) to optimize the positioning and quantity of read thresholds in NAND Flash memory.

• Employed the discretized Density Evolution (DE) and Gaussian approximation method to optimize the read threshold voltages while comparing with the performance of actual QC-LDPC codes decoded via belief propagation

• Implement the 802.11n QC LDPC code of rate 2/3 and length 1,944 encoder/decoder PUBLICATION

• Yeh, Yi-Shen; Fazeli, Arman; and Siegel, Paul H. ``Optimization of Read Thresholds in MLC NAND Memory for LDPC Codes," to appear in Proceedings of Non-Volatile Memories Workshop (NVMW), March 2020. RESEARCH

Concurrent mmWave Communication and Radar for Vehicles February - April 2020

• Combined RADAR to the system without interrupting existing communication link while maintaining RADAR accuracy in range and velocity estimation to near CRLB and with resolution of 60cm and 1.28m/s

• Applied symplectic fast Fourier transform (SFFT) to implement orthogonal time frequency space (OTFS) on top of the conventional OFDM link that increases robustness under high Doppler scenarios

• Used 8x8 phased array with multi-beam along side our self-designed hierarchical space spanning algorithm to efficiently sweep FoV while maintaining constant communication with BS at 6.96% higher throughput Design of Non-Coherent MFSK Fast Frequency Hopping Receiver for Low Energy Consumption, July - October 2019

• Design the low power consuming receiver for NCMFSK FFH system using 2-pole Butterworth bandpass filters compared against the ideal matched filter. The performance loss at bit error rate at is approximately 1.2 dB for binary case

• Evaluate the fast frequency hopping combining loss which ranges from 1 to 3 db loss with 3 to 9 number of hops per symbol

• Test the performance of the system with the presence of a partial-band jammer and compute the worst case jamming fraction

• Proposes the adoption of Multi-Pattern Frequency Hopping (MPFH) system to mitigate the effects of a follower-jammer ENGINEERING EXPERIENCE

Combating MAI and ISI on DS-CDMA System in Non-Gaussian Environment using a Network of Kalman Filter, Spring 2019

• Assumes the DS-CDMA systems with multipath fading channel, along with the effects of MAI and ISI

• Refine the CDMA system to match the state-space model assumed by the Kalman filter and implement it using MATLAB

• Model the impulsive non-Gaussian noise environment using -contaminated model

• Employ the extended Network of Kalman Filters (NKF) detector to detect impulsive noise and model it using weighted sum of Gaussians (WSG)

• Compare the performance of extended NKF in respect to SRN with conventional RAKE receiver and Recursive Least Square (RLS) Implementing a basic 802.11 Tx/Rx Packet Processing System of IEEE 802.11-2007, Fall 2018

• Implemented an OFDM modulation/demodulation system to process packets

• Perform packet detection and packet synchronization using STF/LTF cross-correlation results

• Correct for fine and coarse carrier frequency offset (CFO) as well as sampling frequency offset (SFO) using LTSs and pilots LEADERSHIP EXPERIENCE
