The early years of my technical knowledge, in preparing individual returns along with various Trust, Estate, Partnership and S-Corp flow through entities: and my leadership training, which propelled me up the ladder of success in the Firm. In conjunction with working in three major offices of EY; i.e., Tampa as an audit supervisor, then Denver as a Tax Partner, and finally as partner-in charge of Tax in Chicago, as well as the Midwest Regional Director of Taxation. By conceptualizing first, then creating the approach to “Industry Specialization” in the taxation division of the Firm, we made Chicago the most successful practice in Ernst & Young, by all metrics. Natural leadership capabilities, which may have been inherited by playing quarterback in high school and college; which helped teach me the science of directing others to do a job you can’t do alone, to the mutual benefit of the organization and its members, team, and or client, all key components to the success of the unit as a whole. MOST SIGNIFICANT ENTREPRENEURIAL ENDEAVORS:1993-2008: SIDNEY PEAK RANCH, LLC. As managing member, created a skiing and equestrian land development company, known as Sidney Peak Ranch in Steamboat Springs, Colorado (Ski Country USA). By initially purchasing Five separate ranches totaling nearly 2,000 acres and combing them and coming up with a plan to contribute 85% of the agricultural open space to a Conservation-Land Preservation entity, producing sizeable charitable contribution deductions for the principal owners. Then, dividing the remaining wooded hill country into 32 exclusive building envelopes, priced upwards of a million dollars each, proved to be a very successful venture. Also, I developed several other smaller real estate ventures in Colorado: i.e., Elk Pass Ranch, Cow Creek Ranch, Fox View Ranch, and Lehigh Ranch, all of which were highly profitable adventures.
