ANNEXURE
Project:
Post-Combustion CO2 capture: Development of activated and Hybrid solvents
Details:
CO2 removal from effluent gases has received much attention because of the environmental need for reducing CO2 emissions to the atmosphere. The most widely used commercial method of CO2 removal is regenerative chemical absorption process using alkanolamine solutions.
In view of this, new solvents were formulated and their experimental data of Vapour-Liquid Equilibrium (VLE) of CO2 in the various compositions of selected solvents were reported at different temperatures and partial pressures of CO2. Besides, process simulation software ASPEN PLUS was used for estimating the percentage CO2 capture from coal-based flue gas using the selected solvents.
The newly formulated solvents were aqueous methyldiethylamine (MDEA), piperazine (PZ) activated aqueous MDEA and hybrid solvent containing sulfolane as physical solvent and PZ activated MDEA as chemical solvent.
From this work, it was found that the hybrid solvents (a combination of
physical and chemical solvent) were appeared to be appropriate efficient solvent for CO2 capture from power plant flue gas streams.
Project:
Manufacture of toluene
Details:
Toluene has many applications such as, in production of benzoic acid, as a blender to increase the octane number of fuels, as a solvent in surface coatings, etc. It is manufactured by solvent extraction process using diethylene glycol as a solvent.
Material and energy balances, equipment design specification and cost estimation were performed for all the unit operations present in the extraction process.
