A creative multi-media professional with more than 20-years extensive experience creating informative and entertaining content on multiple platforms via print, broadcast and internet outlets using a journalism rich background to positively impact businesses and communication outlets alike.

PRESENT

Teaching English Language Development to immigrant kids at Arapahoe County’s Yale Elementary school. Whether its using my conversational Spanish ability to bridge the language gap with children of Latin decent or playing picture games with refugee’s the Middle East, teaching the gift of functional communication is a rewarding way for me to use my education and professional experience to positively impact the next generation.

NON-PROFIT EXPERIENCE

HLTA Aurora Chief Administrator, Aurora CO (May 2018-July 2019)

Served as co-creator and chief administrator of Han Lee’s Aurora Taekwondo Academy of sports and academic excellence. Joined former two-time Olympic taekwondo athlete and former coach of the TKD Olympic team to create an affordable community based martial arts school with an academic component From concept to creation, I was able to generate more than $100k in annual membership contracts in less than six months giving the school a productive start while also serving as an instructor and counsolor for students and parents alike.

BMe Community (April 2016-July 2016)

Served as contributing writer for a book created to highlight BMe Community leaders throughout the country and help promote the non profit’s mission to highlight positive male images in the black community and combat negative narratives with examples of men doing good works in their collective cities and neighborhoods one person at a time. I wrote and edited nearly 100 short biographies for the book about these noteworthy men which helped raise funding to provide grants intended help them continue serving their communities in positive ways. In addition to writing and editing I also played an iatrical role in the design of the book’s cover. BMe originally funded by The Knight Foundation is based in Miami with leadership communities in Akron, Baltimore, Detroit, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh.

United Way (September 2012-December 2012) Detroit, MI

Worked as a spokesperson with the Southeastern United Way. During a four-month campaign season, contributed to an eight-person team and achieved the goal of raising $35M for one of the most successful UW organizations in the country. Managed more than 60 donor accounts, planned campaigns, distributed campaign materials, updated account status information, and picked up and logged donations. Lectured to large and small groups ranging from 10 to 2000 people detailing the virtues of the non profit organization and explaining the comprehensive plan to make Southeastern Michigan a top five place to live work and play in the United States.

MEDIA EXPERIENCE

Coffee Break Media (2000- Present)

Launched and manage multi-media production business taking projects from concept to creation. Market and sell media services that include writing, producing, directing, editing and shooting a diverse portfolio of small business videos ranging from 30-second TV commercials to long form internet ads. Offer similar services as larger companies at a fraction of the cost.

Key Biscayne Islander News (2007-present) Key Biscayne, FL

Work as a freelance general assignment and sports reporter for South Florida’s oldest and most respected weekly newspaper covering local news and including the renowned Sony Tennis Open. Solely responsible for the pre-tournament content including the pullout special section as well as writing more than a dozen features during the event that simultaneously highlight the players, activities and the community itself. It is Key Biscayne’s largest and most lucrative event of the year.

Swen Entertainment (2004-2012) Miami Beach, FL

Worked as a freelance writer and producer for a dynamic award wining and diverse Miami-based production company. Wrote and co-produced content for The Beach Channel and Onboard Media as a subcontractor while with Swen Entertainment. Wrote the content for the company website.

B.L.A.C. Detroit Magazine (September 2012-March 2013) Detroit, MI

Hired to write feature articles for Black Life Arts and Culture Detroit magazine. First assignment for the publication, known for lifestyle and art content, was a sports feature that was elevated to the magazine’s cover story. Also highlighted a heavyweight championship boxer from Detroit who trains in Austria as well as a feature on a woman who provides support to mothers who have lost children to violence.

Sun Sentinel, Fort Lauderdale, FL DMA 17 (2004-2006)

Wrote freelance sports articles for the South Florida daily publication. Primary responsibility was covering University of Miami football practices.

IN-SYNC, Bethesda, MD (August 1999-August 2000)

Worked as a sales consultant for a small non-linear video editing company, managing hundreds of accounts covering a nationwide territory as well as Latin America. Responsibilities included calling on resellers and making sure they were properly served while achieving monthly sales goals. The position required extensive travel to an array of media technology conferences organizing the company both display, ordering materials, tech support and explaining the benefits of our non-linear solution.

WJLA TV ABC 7, Washington, DC DMA, 7 (September 1998-2000)

Worked as freelance general assignment on-air TV news reporter in the nation’s capital, executing live shots, writing and reporting and assisting in editing of packages.

NewsChannel 8, Springfield, VA, Metro DC DMA 7 (September 1997-Oct. 2000)

Morning live reporter responsible for the 24-hour news station’s AM reports. General assignment duties included five live shots each day between 6am and 11am, as well enterprising stories, and producing packaged reports.

Black Entertainment Television (BET) DC, 55 million households nationwide (Sept ’97-‘Oct. 00)

Performed freelance duties reporting news, sports and feature stories for BET Tonight with Tavis Smiley. The nationally aired program began with a packaged report developed from ideas in a news meeting and taken to air typically examining a trending topic of the day.

WLFL FOX 22, Raleigh, NC DMA 29 (June 1995-August 1997)

Worked as a full-time general assignment reporter, writing, field producing, and editing, a variety of news, including Hurricane Fran coverage and The Million Man March in Washington DC. Primary beat was court reporting where I covered hundreds of crimes, including reporting on Michael Jordan’s father’s murder trail.

WILX NBC TV 10, Lansing, MI DMA 103 (Sept 1991-1994)

General assignment reporting position responsibilities included editing tape, field producing and writing news copy in Michigan’s capital city. Worked as Automotive reporter covering GM beat as well as a heavy emphasis on courts. Reported among other cases, on the Dr. Death Jack Kevorkian assisted suicide case from its beginning.

FLORIDA TODAY/ STAR ADVOCATE, Melbourne/ Titusville, FL (August 1989-August 1991)

Began as a roving writer spending time in each section Gannett’s original publication beginning by assisting other reporters, and eventually writing and reporting articles independently. Learned newspaper layout and pagination. Later was awarded an opportunity at the paper’s weekly section in Titusville Florida and given the responsibility of redesigning the publication and eventually writing all the articles in the paper including news, features and sports articles as well as a weekly column.
