Abstract : Most of the process in chemical industry are involved in purifying components.Distillation is one of the most important processes in chemical industry. This thesis studied about the designing of distillation column using Aspen simulation. In Distillation, we considered continuous distillation with tray type arrangement and did the mechanical design by taking methanol-water mixture as a feed. Using Aspen we did the DSTWU and RadFrac models to get the number of stages and compositions on each plate with corresponding temperatures. We have used McCabe Thiele method and Lewis Matheson method for theoretical analysis. And we found that both Aspen and Theoretical results are comparatively equal. We written the code for finding out the compositions on each plate for McCabe Thiele method using Chemical Engineering Software Tool, MATLAB.
