● A bit of background: Project SEED is a longitudinal study that hopes to reveal a more thorough understanding of a student’s Social, Emotional, and Educational Development (SEED). The students this study focuses on are those of Mexican American households, as they journey from middle to high school, and specifically those who frequently must translate for their Spanish-speaking parents on a day-to-day basis.

● Responsibilities included:

o Executed presentations in the community, both on and off campus including at schools and at interested family homes, to recruit participants across the greater Austin area o Conducted health measurements from all family members and obtained blood, hair, and saliva samples from the student participants

o Surveyed students in English and their parents in Spanish o Trained new research assistants on how to do a multitude of Project SEED tasks that included preparation and training for family home visits as well as in-office data inputting and processing in both REDCap and Excel

● 20 hours/week

CAMPUS INVOLVEMENT

Neighborhood Longhorns, Austin, TX October/2016 - December/2019 Volunteer
