HIV/AIDS comprehensive policy for offenders in the
prison through the following: It was contractual obligation.
Conducting promotional health and HIV/AIDS awareness campaign during special days i.e World Aids day; STI’S and Condom week; TB & HIV/AIDS Week; Cell to Cell Campaign on HIV/AIDS in the prison and Candle light memorial
To promote healthy balance – diet
Promoting peer education programme in the prison
Promoting voluntary counseling and testing as one of the HIV/AIDS preventative strategy in the prison
To establish and encouraging PLWA offenders to attend support-group
To provide psycho-social support for those who are in need of it
Assisting and supervising HIV/AIDS Peer Educators on their daily activities
To identify the needs of peer educators and empower them through training in order to enhance the effective implementation of the HIV/AIDS programme
To provide care, support and treatment to those who out HIV positive during voluntary counseling and testing
To educate and disseminate information on the Human Rights of those offenders how living with HIV/AIDS
To conduct monitoring & evaluation on the implementation of preventative HIV/AIDS awareness campaign programme in the prison
To conduct research on HIV/AIDS related issues
After completion of my contractual obligation I resigned since the contract was stipulating that I’m obliged to work or render services for them upon completion of my studies, that is equivalent to the years that there assisted me financially at tertiary level. I was bursary holder.
