Montana State University / College Senior Design Project

August 2017 – May 2018, Montana State University MT

Worked with Los Alamos National Lab to design and fabricate a custom tool to remove a conical foam billet adhered to the inside of a re-entry body. Created a Gantt chart to breakdown level one requirements of the project to fit within the timeline. Proposed the problem solution to a preliminary design review board. Used SolidWorks to model parts, create assemblies, create drawings, and capture 3D images to communicate the design intent. Reported weekly progress reports to LANL. Utilized SolidWorks FEA to estimate applied resultant stresses while checking results with hand calculations. Fabricated all parts with a mill and lathe. Created, implemented, and executed pass/ fail test criteria for the tool assembly.
