It was a brief stint as resigned due to early disillusionment resulted from company’s reluctance to professionalize.

RELIANCE INDUSTRIES LIMITED: VADODARA-INDIA May 1992 – Jul 2007

(Formerly Indian Petrochemicals Corporation (IPCL), a pioneer petrochemicals company in India employed 14000 employees which came to be acquired by Reliance Industries in the year 2002)

Joined as Management Trainee and held various positions within HR before leaving the company as General Manager. During first 10 years, I got exposure into various facets of HR viz. Policy Formulation, HRD, Manpower Planning, Recruitment, Performance Management and Industrial Relations both at unit and corporate level. First 5 years were marked largely by operational role whereas later 5 years provided opportunity of practicing strategic contents with hands on operational role. The period during 2002 and 2007 under Reliance regime, brought best out of me. Usual post acquisition churning propelled me to center stage of activities pertaining to alignment and integration of HR processes between the two companies. While acting as nodal point between IPCL and RIL, implemented series of roll outs of systems, processes and other strategic HR interventions. Key achievements are as highlighted below:

Full integration of HR Systems, policies, structures between IPCL & RIL making it possible to seamlessly transfer employees between two companies & later merge two entities

Implementation of SAP HR (Payroll, PAOM & Time Management) Modules. As a Team Lead configured Payroll (India payroll for bargaining category and Flexible Benefit Package for non-bargaining staff)

Alignment of compensation structures and levels at middle and senior management level between two companies

Conceptualized, designed and successfully implemented a major voluntary separation scheme resulting in reduction of staff strength by 30%

Part of consultative group on Corporate Industrial Relations Strategies and contributed in successfully handling of industrial unrest through legal means
