Rebuild indexes periodically. Very flexible Oracle job would accept the owner, tablespace and table name patterns and rebuild all matching indexes or only those that were too large, very fragmented. Extents re-sized appropriately. Target tablespace could be different for fragmenting an entire tablespace.

Monitor long transactions. Pro-actively take care of potential performance issues due to uncommitted hung transactions or poor query

Database health. Set of scripts for detailed and precise information about locks, SGA, cache, objects in cache, stats, events, and space in the database at the current time. Another script for trending over a period of time. Monitored largest free chunk per tablespace as well.

Analyze tables and indexes. Stored procedure could decide if to compute or estimate or let the caller override. It took owner, object name pattern as input

Moved datafiles for partitions of large partitioned tables to their own tablespaces distributed on various disks. In sort-heavy situations, split the TEMP tablespace over multiple disks as well. Working with Locally Managed Tablespaces

Rollback, Redo, Extents: Resize rollback segments to avoid dynamic allocation of space by pre-allocating the extents. Presently working with SMU (System Managed Undo).Increased numbers of redo log groups to avoid archiver hanging, increase size of redo logs to avoid too frequent archive logs. Maintained extents previously and now all working with Locally Managed.

Optimized SQL queries: To run from a few minutes to 15 seconds or less by reordering the where clause, using subqueries in joins, realizing and creating indexes on columns in the where clause. Tuned PL/SQL codes to run in shorter time.

Used UTLESTAT and UTLBSTAT and STATSPACK for Database wide performance issues to tune the SGA and all. Used Analyze, Explain Plan and Tkprof to tune the SQL Queries.
