Former Chemical Plant Manager possessing numerous skills in a very technical and fast paced production facility for the past 18 years. I reported directly to the President of the company. I managed all aspects of the production operations from hiring and training of new employees, Safety, Budget, Scheduling of outages for upgrades of the equipment to Preventative Maintenance, purchasing of spare and replacement parts, Operational Guidelines, development of Standard Operating Procedures, technical guidelines, scheduling for all operations and maintenance personnel as well as supervising all laboratory analysis for quality control. All things that could help Safety, Quality, and Increased Production while keeping operational costs low. I am proficient with computers and have worked with Allen Bradley as well as Delta V operations controllers and associated equipment.

I have been very successful in all jobs that I have had through my life by following the goals laid out by my previous employers. After 18 years of success in my job at Odyssey, I made the decision to come back to my roots of where my family lives. I was still employed by the Odyssey Manufacturing Company in a consultant capacity until the end of 2018. I had a brief employment with GP Gypsum and now work for the City of Rincon. I am now looking for a position in which I can utilize some of the many skills that I have acquired through the years of working in the Industrial Market. I can provide work references on request.

Work History

Water Department Maintenance

City of Rincon – Rincon Georgia July 2019 – Currently

I was hired by the City of Rincon to work in their Water Department where I have received training on the operations and maintenance of the equipment used by and to service the customers in the City of Rincon. It is a good job but does not offer the pay that I would like to receive. I have not been able to use the vast amounts of training and expertise that I have received over my working career and there is only a slow road to advancement there. So, I continue to work there until I find the right job fit.

Team Leader

GP Gypsum - Savannah Georgia November 2018 – February 2019

Was hired by Georgia Pacific’s Gypsum Plant to be their New 4th Crew Leader. They had been working 3 crews during the week and decided to increase their employees and add another crew to enable them to work around the clock seven days a week due to increased sales. I was hired to run the new crew. After a few weeks of training they put me on crew without the training I was promised to receive in quality and operations. I worked a swing shift with them for approximately 4 weeks before management decided they were going back to 3 crews since the work was not there. After working there for three months I asked for my evaluation on my abilities and job performance and was given a poor rating due to their lack of training me. I had a meeting with the department head and personnel and was lied to by the personnel department. I did not like to be lied too and since I felt they would do it again, I thanked them for the opportunity but then quit. The company had a great philosophy on how to encourage their employees but lacked the ability to lead their employees at the site. Which their turnover rate was greater than 30 %.

Plant Manager / Engineering

Odyssey Manufacturing – Tampa, Florida January 2000 – November 2018

Started my role as Plant Engineer for Odyssey Manufacturing where I worked with the construction company in building of the manufacturing facility. I also worked with The Chemetics Group who were the design engineers responsible for the plant design. I worked with operations personnel to help train for the operations when the plant was completed. At the time there was no one that had ever done this type of operations employed by Odyssey except me. In March of 2000 the plant was started up ahead of plan as an online chemical manufacturing facility. I was then promoted to the Plant managers position which I held until March of 2018. Some of the duties that I had were as follows;

Tracked data about all aspects of production to assess areas in need of improvement by either cost or productivity

Reduced costs by eliminating materials waste and unnecessary labor hours

Maximized plant Safety through proactive strategies and structured training

Optimized processes to maximize the efficiencies of the equipment

Hired and trained all operations personnel and support staff

Continued my own education on the equipment being utilized for our product which helped efficiencies and lowered maintenance costs

Maintained project quality with hands on management style

Collaborated with the President of the company to develop scopes and implement project plans

Planned and successfully expanded manufacturing output twice by utilizing operations personnel with a cost savings of over 1 million dollars the first time and 600,000 dollars the second time

Helped design and build 2 more plants, one in Orlando and another just outside Tampa. Both were started a head of time and capable of full capacity operation at start up.

I have taken classes and trained for utilizing these learned skills such as electrical, instrumentation, plumbing, piping design, for pumps, gearboxes, cooling towers, heat exchangers, ion exchangers, demineralizers, scrubbers, water treatment, boilers, air compressors, clarifiers, filters, laboratory equipment, spectrophotometry, gas chromatography.

Chlor/Alkali Supervisor - Pulp Processing Supervisor - Pulper Operator - Paper Grader/unloader

Fort Howard Paper Company – Rincon Georgia September 1986 - January 2000

I went to school for pre-employment for Fort Howard for 6 weeks while employed by my previous employer where I was evaluated on technical skillset as well as mechanical aptitude. I scored highly in the class and was hired by them as soon as the building was erected. When I first started at Fort Howard I did whatever supervision asked of me in preparation for starting up the Pulp Processing Department. When completed I started grading the wastepaper that we received and was responsible for unloading the bales out of 20-ton container trailers. After unloading trucks for approximately 6 months I was promoted to the line where the bales where staged and pushed into giant pulpers.

I then was promoted to the Pulper Operators position where I was efficient and led to filling in as a Screen Operator which is the highest position in the department without being in Supervision. I held that job position for 1 year then was promoted again to Pulp Processing Shift Supervisor. Once in supervision there were some chances for advancement by taking on a new role of the Chlor/Alkali Supervisor which is where my understanding of manufacturing really began. It was an exciting role for me as well as a chance to grow even more in the chemical industry. I stayed in that role until December of 1999. There were 2 different buyouts that the company went through and layoff was likely in my position.

Blanking / Chop and Tumble Operator

The Torrington Company - Sylvania Georgia July 1979 – September 1986

I was hired by The Torrington Company soon after my eighteenth birthday. It was the first industrial job that I had ever had. My duties there were to run several machines that cut specific size parts (needles) to fit in cups to make a bearing. The tolerances were very small as were the pins. Each machine made a different size part with their own certain parameters for its own particular cup. After 2 years working as a Blanking Operator I was promoted to a Chop and Tumble Operator. I ran 5 different machines that made different styles of pins for bearing, but not only did you have to operate the machines, but you had to work on them as well. Each machine was capable of making several different size pins, so my responsibility was to change them over to whatever particular size that was on the production list and operate to make the production without much waste or scrap.

In Summary

I have given each and every employer more than they have asked for in my dedication, diligence, work ethic, and my attention to details. Almost everyone that has ever worked for me would work for me again because of my work ethic and the attention to details for safety and production. I never asked someone to do something I wasn’t willing to do for the job. I worked along side with my subordinates when I did not have to, so they could see that work titles shouldn’t separate what the common goal was. I earned respect by the way that I treated them and encouraged their learning of the jobs assigned to them by me. I believe in working hard for what you want. I have the dedication and skills to tackle any job with the same vigor and attention to detail as when I first began working. Thank You for this opportunity to apply to your company.
