On call coverage for Urology Surgical Services inpatient care.
Diagnose and contribute to the management of urological emergencies such as Fournier’s gangrene, priapism, testicular torsion, urinary retention, difficult catheter placement, scrotal abscess, uro-sepsis and others.

06/2010 – Present – Physician Assistant, University of North Carolina School of Medicine, Center for Esophageal Diseases and Swallowing, Division of Gastroenterology & Hepatology.
Work in collaboration with Dr.’s Nicholas Shaheen, Evan Dellon, Shifali Arora, Craig Reed and Swathi Eluri in the UNC Center for Esophageal Diseases and Swallowing, a subdivision of the GI and Hepatology division.
I am currently in clinic six half days a week. Five of those are completely autonomous and the other half day is with a supervising physician - this is typical of a teaching hospital system. I also read esophageal function studies (24 hour pH impedance and high resolution esophageal manometry), am in charge of triaging all referrals to our center and assist with clinical research trials.
I evaluate and manage care of patients with gastrointestinal disorders including Barrett's esophagus, esophageal cancer, complex esophageal strictures, achalasia, functional GI disorders, esophageal and other GI disorders related to rheumatologic conditions such as myositis, scleroderma, sjogren's, lichen planus and others. This includes history taking and physical examination; ordering and interpreting diagnostic testing; and clinical management of patients pre and post-procedure. Coordinate discharge planning and outpatient care. Provide patient education; coordinates and conducts clinical and telephone follow-up of patients.
I work with fellows, residents, medical students, PA students and pre-PA students on a regular basis.
10/2007 – 05/2010 – Physician Assistant, Carilion Clinic New River Gastroenterology

Worked with Dr.'s Thomas Noble and Anthony Ringold at New River Gastroenterology, a private GI office partnered with Carilion Clinic in Christiansburg, Va. Saw general gastroenterology disorders including inflammatory bowel disease, celiac disease, NASH, GERD, eosinophilic esophagitis, Barrett's, pancreatitis, etc.
Responsible for treating and managing all Hepatitis C cases.
Duties included diagnosing medical problems and prescribing necessary treatment and services for quality care; review and record normal and abnormal data. Take patient histories, conduct physical examinations, dictate and record data in the patient's record; prepare patient workups and summaries; order laboratory studies and diagnostic procedures and educating patients regarding their diagnosis.
Worked in collaboration with Dr. Tony Ringold in the New River Valley Research division as a sub-investigator on phase I, II, and III clinical trials. Performed physical exams, interpreted data, and provided support for research staff.
