January Effect

• Used Excel- Regression Data Analysis tool on 38 years of AAPL monthly return data to study the seasonality effect on a single stock as compared to that on a portfolio.

• Observed an increase in returns during the initial trading days of January but it wasn’t as significant as it used to be during the early 1900’s possibly due to the Fama-French SMB factor and investors gaining knowledge of the anomaly. Portfolio Optimization

• Simulated optimal portfolios with 9 assets that would meet the investor’s objective of highest expected return for various defined levels of risk using Solver.

• Under the ‘Short Sale Allowed’ constraint, it was possible to create portfolios to achieve the expected values of at least 0.5%, 0.75%, 1% and 1.25%
