Projects

Modelling and Analysis of Superheated Steam in Total Site systems M.Sc. Dissertation

June 2014 – September 2014

• The objective of the project was to maintain the required steam quality in a utility system taking into consideration the relative positions of the various components along a steam main and investigate operational variations.

• Simulations were carried out in ASPEN Plus to develop various retrofit models of the steam mains to achieve the targets. The targets to be achieved were set as steam turbine shaft work from a Base Case where it was considered that there are no heat losses in the steam main.

• Different cases were analysed by simulating heat losses in the steam mains as heat exchangers for different lengths of the pipe.

• Suggestions were made about the various constraints in future optimisation of utility systems where operational variations are considered.
