WORK PROFILE
DECEMBER 2007 – FEBRUARY 2020
SENIOR SCIENTIST - CHEMISTRY, nestle research/gerber products company – fremont, mi
Metals and minerals - sample preparation and analysis (ICP-MS and XRF)
Proximate testing (fat, fiber, protein, moisture, ash)
Solids analysis (gravimetric, IR, microwave, specialized)
Color analysis
Thermal properties (DSC, Thermal Conductivity)
Water analysis (pH, CON, TDS, Residual Chlorine, Organoleptic)
Enzyme testing
Delta Panel member
Shelf-life testing (Isotherm generation, water activity)
Supervisory role for interns, contractors, and the Chemistry Lab
Write, revise, and review laboratory instructions
Training for new associates on most methods
Safety training for associates and on-site contractors
SHE Representative for the Quality Management Group
Rheology analysis (Brookfield viscosity, multiple other methods)
Certified ISO and NQMS Internal auditor (FSSC 22000, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001)
HPLC (sugars, vitamin c)
Accomplishments: I became the Rheology Expert in the research group, versed on several instruments and methods. This has allowed me to help complete the filing process for health care and other consumer beverages. I championed the measurement of Color and lead the analysis of alternative ways to measure it. This provided an important tool for use at an off-site location for consumers to help gauge acceptance of commercial product color in the marketplace. Provided the analysis and initial insight into an alternative production method for sodium reduction. This supported a successful patent application for the launch of reduced sodium products. Developed methodology for analysis of high mineral content samples by ICP-MS. This eliminated the need for an ICP (cost savings of $150,000).
AUGUST 1996 – DECEMBER 2007

ACTIVITIES
I am mentor for our middle school and high school FIRST Robotics teams and have been doing this for several years. I provide guidance and mentoring for safety and various other activities (building, programming, electrical) for the team, including pit design elements for each season (the theme is unique each season). I am the 3D printing provider and resident expert, and contribute adult supervision when the team travels, as needed. I am passionate about creating with Lego, and have created several winning creations for the Chicago Brickworld® convention. My son and I assist in many aspects of setting up and tearing down, while displaying our own creations while we are at Brickworld®. I enjoy trail rides in our Jeep (2004 Unlimited (LJ)) along with tinkering on it with my son, photography, traveling the back roads, visiting Michigan’s wonderful wineries and lighthouses, and collecting books by many Michigan mystery authors.
