I Worked in the Family Practice Clinic daily and every fourth day I had call in the Emergency Room, where I evaluated and treated the pediatric through the geriatric populations. This is a critical access care rural health hospital. I Performed physical exams on the multi-system trauma patient. I also treated the acute chest pain/stroke patient, Ordered and interpreted diagnostic tests. I sutured wounds in the clinic and the ER, had to perform intubation in the Emergency room, I performed joint injections, and pelvic exams, counselled patients with diabetes, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, CHF, and coronary artery disease. used medications for treatment of Pulmonary emboli due to deep venous thrombosis. Scrubbed in on surgeries with a General surgeon that came to our hospital. Admitted patients from the emergency room and wrote admission orders for them, and on ER call days I also performed rounds on the patients for our physicians. Chosen to augment a 3rd Special Forces A Team to Malawi, Africa to assist a British Orthopedic Surgeon at Queen Elizabeth II Hospital with approximately 75 orthopedic cases. The team was composed of me and two Special Forces Medics, an Orthopedic Surgeon, Nurse Anesthetist, family practice Physician and a General Medical Officer. Incised and drained wounds in the wound clinic and worked in the fracture clinic re-breaking and resetting mal union fractures with pediatric and adult patients. Administered spinal anesthesia in the OB/GYN delivery room, under the supervision of a Malawi National CRNA, also administration of anesthesia in the OR during various orthopedic procedures under the supervision of our CRNA. 1St assist with a Nigerian Professor performing a craniotomy, scrubbed in with a British and Italian Surgeon performing a double laminectomy and assisted closing under the supervision of the Italian Surgeon.
