Work Experience
09/2019 – 07/2020 ICT Teacher, Leyton Sixth Form College
I have taught a range of ICT groups, such as two groups of ICT level 2, two groups of ICT level 3 and one group of A level computer science. Those groups have different students’ learning abilities and learning units. I have adapted my teaching to all types of different levels; therefore, I could develop a better learning environment to enable my students to learn effectively.
Using different learning approaches to teach ICT is essential to develop students’ understanding of various learning aspects. This has inspired me to implement a variety of learning activities, such as collaborative discussions, presentations by students, groups work, and peer assessments. Those types of activities induce students’ critical thinking to develop their perception from other students’ experiences, which also leads to develop a better relationship among the students. Using the theoretical ideas behind those learning approaches/activities have helped me in implementing those activities with a better understanding of the outcome and how effective those activities are based on students’ responses to them.
As a teacher, I should not only focus on students’ learning. As a result, I should also focus on building students’ skills. For example, I believe that there are five skills that should be mainly distributed in my students. Those five skills are social skills, communication skills, critical thinking skills, research skills, and self-management skills. Those five skills should be developed in students rather than focusing on subject content. Developing those types of skills within my students will encourage them to develop other skills, such as analysing, thinking, researching, and sharing information with others, which will eventually lead them to improve their learning skills and subject knowledge.
