Career Objective
After 30 years of building on leadership and communication skills in large and small organizations, I aim to make a positive, dynamic impact on a world-class team focused on chasing excellence in every business process from quote to deposit of cash payment for our products and service.
Education
United States Military Academy at West Point BS General Engineering Curriculum for Army Officers, Class of 1990. Parachute jump qualified, and decorated for exemplary service in 4 deployments, most notably; Gulf War, round 1, where I brought home all 114 of America’s sons and daughters after we conducted battlefield repair of tanks, trucks, earth movers, artillery, radios, etc. Served in post-Cold War Europe and deployed as a Reservist to civil war-torn Guatemala. Trained to solve technical/logistics problems using basic skills in Portuguese, Arabic, German and Spanish. Turned down the CIA's offer to remain a forward area logistician in the War on Terror.
Work History
GLG; Interim Leadership 5/2016 to Present. In exchange for equity, incentive reward and base pay depending on the assignment, I assist companies in transition from acquisition to mature performer. Key managing director role most recently at a Bosch Rexroth distribution partner, GCC, where I helped an industrial distribution and equipment integration company in the Northwest restore their former reputation with key customers and their most important industry suppliers. Other key sales leadership assignments at Atos North America and Hydraulex Global, both in motion control machinery and mobile equipment fluid power. I've managed both operational and sales leadership employees through the uncertainty of new ownership and getting past the forming/storming/norming stages of integration so that they can meet profitability and growth goals.
Bosch Rexroth Regional Sales Manager; 4/2011 to 5/2016. Led two teams of sales engineers providing hydraulic drive and control solutions in mining, ag, oil/gas exploration, power generation and many other industrial applications. I left behind a legacy of emerging leaders in the Western and Southeastern US to fill my shoes as I transitioned to a customer and distribution partner. My two assigned regions each won paid vacation trips from smashing budget goals by 14% and 18%.
DTS Fluid Power VP of Sales/Operations; 4/2008 to 3/2011. Transformed the largest Rocky Mountain hydraulics and machinery design company to achieve twice its valuation and saw it through successful sale because of the systems and leadership techniques I put into place such as VOIP phone systems that linked multi-state operations and SAP's ERP and CRM software. The founder became a multi-millionaire and I cashed out my small sweat-equity stake. We remain friends to this day and I continue to advise and consult with him and his key sales leader.
Swagelok Sunnyvale Director of Distribution Operations; 3/2004 to 3/2008. Leader of the largest Swagelok distributor selling 80% more fluid transfer products due to the culture of excellence I created using Lean Office methods that were adapted in all other distribution operations in the US.
Nitron Advisors Business Consultant; 7/2002 to 3/2004. Advisor to small and large companies in lean manufacturing and lean office concepts to speed and simplify transactions to improve profitability and performance. Turned around 2 businesses by engaging leadership in lean methodologies that were thought to be too complicated for those not trained in Six Sigma, et al.
Alcoa Packaging Machinery General Manager; 3/2000 to 6/2002. The youngest GM in a $24 billion entity charged with right-sizing the business unit from 250 to 115 union employees in a declining market at odds with a national union. Best ROI of any Alcoa group at 14%.
1994-2000; In my twenties, after active military service, I worked in factory shift leadership roles in unionized paperboard packaging at Kellogg's and General Mills' sole suppliers, James River Corporation and Smurfit-Stone (now Georgia Pacific) during the early days of consolidation of regional, national and international paper companies. In order to learn the skills taught in MBA programs, I took on a two year assignment in same-day courier delivery sales and operations for a national office paper distribution group later rolled into Staples.
