Ismail Bukenya holds a BSc (Hon) Civil Engineering (Upper Class Honors) from Makerere University and a Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety from Kyambogo University.

Ismail currently works with Air Water Earth (AWE) Limited and Queensland & Leeds Consulting Engineers as a Civil Engineer under the water and sanitation departments of both companies. During his three (3) year-long consulting practice, Ismail has been involved in consultancy services for several water and sanitation projects including; water supply scheme designs for small towns and assessments of the WASH services in refugee hosting districts.
