1.Input onto the section's Service Delivery Plan and assist with the achievement of defined objectives.

2.Plan, organise, control and schedule the day to day activities of the mechanical workshops in association with operational service heads.

3. Inspect and authorise all repair works undertaken by vehicle workshop staff and External suppliers ensuring full compliance with standards.

4.Where vehicle repairs identified are critical in terms of mechanical or financial viability, report findings to the Transport and Stores Manager for further instruction.

5. Forward plan, programme and estimate work and materials in liaison with management and operational users and arrange alternative hired transport where required.

6. Ensure that, so far as practicable, work is carried out to the required instructions, timescales and standards, and those relevant documents are produced, checked and verified.

7. Investigate and deal with day to day driver defect reports in consultation with management and operational users. Ensure they are rectified and completed as required in the legislation.

8.Order, verify and code materials to meet work requirements including monitoring and control of workshop stores.

9.Where mechanical repairs require specialist manufacturer advice or technical support or workload is greater than workshop capacity, arrange with external suppliers the provision of a mechanical repair service.

10. Maintain and provide all work records required within the section, particularly in relation to employee holiday, sickness and accidents and input to Tranman, Radius Purchase Order System and other Council Information Technology Systems.

11. Induct new employees and implement Council policy in respect of employment, training, discipline and health and safety practices, as well as undertaking Personal Development Reviews. Conduct Return to Work interviews as and when required.

12.Maintain an inventory of all lifting and load securing equipment ensuring full compliance with all safety legislation including LOLER AND PUWER.

13.Ensure full compliance with COSHH regulations including safe storage of materials.

Carry out Risk Assessments and produce safe systems of work processes and procedures.

14. Provide details and advise the Transport and Stores Manager on the training and development requirements of the Workshop staff to ensure they are fully compliant on technical and legislative issues.
