Skills Summary

I am a focused, creative, problem solver with a varied design, engineering and manufacturing background. I bring 20+ years of advanced composite, project management, product development, tool and equipment integration, specializing in material handling and automation. I have extensive knowledge of manufacturing requirements and techniques. I am an independent, cooperative collaborator in cross functional teams. I use this unique skill set to be an asset to the company I work for.

Work History

2019 – Current The Boeing Company Production Engineer NMA Wing Development Tukwila, WA

As the production engineering focal for material handling I developed innovative concepts that dramatically reduced flow, factory floor space, enhanced mechanic safety during transportation of the part, and reducing part movement complexity. My ability to effectively work cross-functionally resulted in requirements that were more inclusive of the lifecycle of the part and manufacturing processes.

Using my manufacturing concepts, the NMA Spar Post-Cure evolved from a traditional linear pulse production line to an advanced fractional pulse manufacturing process that reduced square footage by half and increased work density. The work with the supplier generated innovative concepts, matured the advanced manufacturing process, and eliminated production system risks.

2015 - 2019 The Boeing Company Production/Manufacturing Engineer 777X Everett, WA

I collaborated with a broad cross-functional team of tool engineers, operations, EHS, construction, management and suppliers to improve and refine the statement of work that was happening in wing post cure factory. I succeeded in building long-term relationships with customers by consistently meeting customer commitments and seeking feedback for improvements.

I took full ownership for composite wing panel material handling, including equipment and tooling requirements and implementation. For the unique panel rotation tool, all wing panel rotation needs were met, including a three month pull ahead panel that required an interim tool header to be made and ready for use ahead of schedule.

Working with the production engineers who owned the tools, tooling integration, and the tooling core team I created a LEAN poka-yoke process improvement for identifying sets of tools and implemented it as a standard throughout the wing factory. The tooling integration and tooling core teams propose using this standard in future tool procurement and by other programs throughout the Boeing enterprise.

I was production engineering owner for building wide overhead cranes and vertical handling system for wing panels to provide requirements, coordination and focus for all set-up activities. The production vertical composite wing panel handling system has no precedence at The Boeing Company, reducing square footage and vastly simplifies equipment and tooling.

2013 - 2015 The Boeing Company Manufacturing Engineer-777X Wing Development Tukwila, WA

I provided sole project planning for factory/tooling integration for 777X 80’ Wing Development in the Development Center. Working with facilities, R&D plus factory manufacturing engineers, I implemented factory layout solutions, determining tooling location and support equipment needed for each process over the course of the program.

2012 – 2013 The Boeing Company Manufacturing Planner-787 Shipside Everett, WA

I led the special project team that reduced planning errors of early production 787 airplanes by nearly 65% by analyzing and correcting over 750,000 installation plans prior to the planes entering the building.

Reduced warranty repair working time by over 2500 days by using historical data. I worked with liaison and quality engineering to revise the planning to include shimming allowance deemed acceptable for the previous five years.

2011 – 2012 FiberDyne Advanced Composites Account Executive/Purchasing Director Tukwila, WA

Identified and engaged clients for various advanced composite projects and provided quotes/production plans to their requirements following ISO 9001 requirements.

Project management including scope of work, CAD drawings, work orders and quality assurance plans for projects ranging from ornate carbon fiber seastairs to structural components for a sub-orbital spacecraft.

Education

Art Institute of Seattle Industrial Design Technology Seattle, WA

I studied the design and manufacture of products, mastering prototyping and illustration techniques. Special areas of study included human factors, CAD, vehicle design, materials, production processes.

Career Projects

Post Cured Carbon Fiber Waste Reuse/Recycle Project The Boeing Company Everett, WA

Led the team that developed a recycled post cure thermoplastic carbon fiber OSB material. This material would cost 75% to produce compared to wood OSB yet have properties superior to that of marine grade plywood. Materials would be 85-90% recycled carbon fiber and waste thermoplastic waste and be able to use 100% of the carbon waste generated by Boeing and generating $8600 of profit per shipset. Potential uses include but are not limited to rotable shipping containers, sheet stock, molded pallets and disaster relief housing. Material is rot and insect proof.

Ornate Carbon Fiber Sea Stairs and Pivot Platform FiberDyne Advanced Composites Tukwila, WA

Developed seastairs and pivot platforms for the luxury yacht industry replacing aluminum/stainless steel industry standard materials with ornate infused carbon fiber. This new design was more aesthetically pleasing and weighed a third less than its metal equivalent with no loss in strength.
