ISO Real Time Interface

This application required a Java implementation to consume external SOAP web services, process the returned XML document and update the database on the AS/400. This project also required installing/configuring the Java Virtual Machine on the AS/400 as well configuring the environment.

Agent Portal Update

This project replaced the existing Agent Web Portal which utilized Python/Web2py/Apache with C# using .Net, Infragistics controls, AJAX, web services and the latest HTML/CSS/JQuery and JavaScript functions.

Various Maintenance Projects

These projects entailed maintaining and modifying the existing code base while simultaneously converting the code base to harness newer technologies and techniques.

April 2009 Benningfield Enterprises, LLC

Present Consultant/Contractor

I had my own consulting business specializing in web enabling AS/400 environments utilizing the latest RPG/ILE and C# development techniques.

Accomplishments

Restaurant Management System

This application was designed to be a cost effective alternative to the current turnkey systems on the market today. This application was delivered via an Intranet using C# 3.0, Telerik 3rd party controls and SQL Server as the database engine. The application takes care of inventory control, order entry, sales analysis and interfaces into both Quickbooks as well as Microsoft Accounting.

General Ledger Inquiry

This was primarily a green screen application with multiple subfiles, service programs, pop up windows as well as Java to download the data to the user’s computer.

Prescription Reconciliation

This application required several Java programs to be developed on the AS/400 to communicate with several external web services to retrieve XML EDI documents that then had to be imported into the DB2 database for actual processing with multiple sub-files and windows.

Data Conversion

Designed and developed several data conversion projects to move data from the DB2 database on the AS/400 to multiple external databases and formats including Informix, Oracle, SQL, MySql, Access as well as various text files, comma and tab delimited files and even Dbase.

September 2006 Webco Industries, Inc.

to March 2009 ASP.Net/C# Contractor

Working through the Addison Group, I utilized my .Net Development skills at Webco Industries in Sand Springs.

Accomplishments

Time and Attendance

This application was a complete replacement for the existing Time and Attendance Management system. The time clock was replaced with a PC based Kiosk running the client side of the application which captured images and punch in/out events. A complete Intranet based management system facilitated the interface into ADP’s payroll system.

May 2001 Fuel Managers, Inc.

to August 2006 Senior Developer

I provided a leadership role in both the AS/400 development as well as the ASP.Net development. I trained existing as well as new staff in .Net methodologies as well as worked with existing contractors in the development of applications delivered via the company intranet.

Accomplishments

Price Repository

This is an application that gathers pricing data from multiple sources, normalizes it and stores in a SQL Server 2005 database. I assisted the contractor in some of the design, functionality as well as the interfaces to the TFM application. This involved stored procedures, functions, views as well as index optimization.

TFM

This new development was an application that merged data from the Price Repository as well as the AS/400 to allow price quotes to be delivered to our customers via email and fax. We leveraged XML with XSLT to format the documents while utilizing web services as the delivery mechanism. The application relied on AJAX for a robust user experience as well Cascading Style Sheets to control the overall look and feel of the application. JavaScript was used extensively throughout as well.

May 1997 John Christner Trucking, Inc.

to March 2001 MIS Director

Managed the company’s internal Information Systems staff that included Sr. Programmer/Analysts, Network Administrator, Help Desk and PC/Telephony technicians as well as all outside technology vendors. My responsibilities include defining the company’s Information Systems infrastructure, allocating appropriate resources to assure successful implementation of the company’s IS projects and meeting my budgetary and financial requirements.

As a member of the Management Team, I met regularly with ownership and the other Department Heads to discuss and determine ways to improve our revenue stream, control our costs as well as ways to improve our utilization of resources across the company.

Accomplishments

Corporate Headquarters

This project consisted of assisting ownership in the design of the new Corporate Headquarters building and developing a plan to implement an NT based network connected to our AS/400. This involved designing the server structure, cabling systems and a CISC to RISC upgrade of the AS/400. Training had to be developed and scheduled to assist all employees in the transition to the new technology. In addition, new T-1 services and telephone systems were put in place. Furniture systems were selected and installed to maximize space and employee productivity. A master schedule had to be developed governing every aspect of relocating corporate staff along with all the office equipment.

EDI

The decision was made to implement EDI so we could communicate more effectively with our customers. This project consisted of determining which software package to use, what type of communications protocols to implement and what version of the EDI standard to implement. We chose a software package that integrates well with Innovative Computing Corporation and yet gives us the flexibility of using a Value Added Network, direct communication to our customer and FTP. We chose Kleinschmidt as our VAN since they could translate our documents from version 4010 to any version our customers were using at no additional cost to us. We have been very successful in our implementation and are currently doing Load Tenders, Acknowledgments, Shipment Statuses and Electronic Billing.

Rand McNally Interface

It was determined that we needed access to Rand McNally mileage’s for our growing customer base and the AS/400 resident version was beyond the scope of my budget so I negotiated with Rand McNally to get their server version and develop the interface to Innovative Computing’s rating module. This allowed us to get the information at a drastically reduced cost. The interface had to designed and developed using RPG/ILE. In addition to the billing interface, this project took advantage of several other features of Rand McNally’s IntelliRoute solution and provided us with routing for 53’ trailers and HazMat.

Daily Status Reporting

This project was designed for those customers that did not currently have EDI so we could communicate load status information with them effectively as well. Using Amalgamated Software of North America’s Visual RPG tool, I designed and developed a program that reads data from the AS/400 and presents it in a Windows application. This data can then be reviewed and manipulated and when ready, sent via e-mail to all concerned parties. This same tool is being used to develop our web applications.
