Dear Dr. Davis,

My name is Africa Lockhart and I am a Georgia Southern University graduate. I am writing this letter to you to express my interest to pursue the Master’s of Public Administration program and Public Policies at Georgia Southern University. I currently have a 3.33 GPA with a Bachelor’s of Art in Political Science from Georgia Southern University. I have been on the Dean’s List from Spring 2016 to Fall 2018 and worked part-time as a Full-time student. My awards include being nominated for the 2019 Judge Frank S. Cheatham Scholarship and an honor student of the National Society of Leadership and Success program.

My influence with Public Administration as an undergraduate student became in depth when I took classes dealing with the Supreme Court and the Introduction to Public Policy. I researched different cases dealing with the Judicial System and was given the opportunity to be part of a Moot Court scenario to see how Judges handle different cases. I have written several papers that cover topics from Immigration to Health Care where I had to state my reasons on why specific policies passed by Congress or presented to them needed to be revised or remain intact.

These are current issues that I relate to because I do not have health care like millions of American because the premiums are so expensive. This inspired me to want to get a higher degree so I can assist others who need social services. The Master’s of Public Administration program will assist me in furthering my career where I can be available to work for government agencies for specific needs in Georgia or teach these courses at a university.

I believe my employment experience at a high end retail chain like Kroger’s has given me the determination to strive for a better economic future. I have learned to be persistent, patient, and react to different scenarios in an effective manner when I deal with clients in public while working in the customer service. The Master’s of Public Administration program can assist me in working well with a group or on my own whether I work in the public or private sector of government agencies.

I am very passionate about people having the same privileges in the United States regardless of race or creed. I want this graduate degree in five years to give me the opportunity that I need to work in the educational field on a local, national and international level. The internship, research methods and strategies that I use will make it efficient for me to manage various situations as they pertain to individuals in the public and private sectors of administration.
