Contract with U.S. Cellular through Insight Global in the Network Operations Center.

Assisted in the upgrade of an environment of Linux servers.

Installed and configured hardware and software for thirty two servers, such as network, SAN, Netbackup and BIOS upgrades. The installation of these servers was using Kickstart and an in house script handled some of the systems configuration such as network, external SAN drives and installation of drivers for Fiber Channel interface cards.

Provided support for Solaris, Linux and Windows servers and monitoring of Netbackup environment.

Used Symantec’s Backup Reporter to monitor as well as aid in capacity planning.

Worked on a project to migrate SAN fiber cabling from current Brocade switches to newer model DCX switches and to EMC Clariion arrays.

Documented the current SAN from server to switch to storage and created new mapping to add patch panels in the environment to connect cabling to the new switches.

In order to extend my time at the merged Chicago Board of Trade/ Chicago Mercantile Exchange I was rehired as a Consultant through the MAKE Corporation. I was able to continue my normal responsibilities at the newly formed CME Group.

Included day to day administration of backup servers in the CBOT computer site, management of off-site media using Netbackup

Vault utility to send media to an Iron Mountain data storage facility and transition of information to the new merged company.

Solaris Systems Administrator/Storage Administrator

Environment: Solaris(UNIX), Sun Microsystems, Hitachi, Brocade, ksh, Perl, Veritas Volume Manager(VxVM), Netbackup, StorageTek L20, L40, L700.

Responsible for general administration of Solaris software and hardware. Includes work with Sun Ultra 2, Ultra 5, V240, V280R V880, and Sparc 5. Versions of Solaris used in environment started with Solaris 2.5, 6, 7, 8, and 9.

Worked as a Level 1 Administrator of CBOT’s Project A Trading system, a proprietary system running on Sparc 5 workstations using Solaris 2.5. Allow remote administration of client’s workstation such as disk space, fix local printers, and application troubleshooting.

Installed Solaris operating systems, installed or replaced various hardware components, such as HBA's, network cards, and memory.

Monitored performance of the hardware and software such as disk space, disk usage, and network performance. Ran operating system patches as needed.

SAN responsibilities included fiber network zoning of various storage media tape drive, and server end equipment, as well as working with NetApp NAS appliance in a Windows and Solaris environment. Worked with Hitachi storage with a Brocade network.

Installed various fiber channel host bus adapters, troubleshooting fiber wiring.

Netbackup functions consisted of installing backup clients, creating backup servers, maintaining attached tape drive/disk devices, monitoring and troubleshooting backups.

Performed upgrades and patches of Netbackup software.

Helped with Sarbanes-Oxley compliance for our backup and tape media processing. Instigated technical calls for various vendors to troubleshoot problems with software as well as hardware.

Coordinated systems administration of these systems in a remote data center.

Created and maintained Disaster Recovery procedures.
