• Reviewed and coordinated the decision to purchase and install J. D. Edwards manufacturing and financial software package on AS 400 platform.

• Supervision and management of accounting departments including human resources and MIS. Preparation and analysis of profit and loss statements and financial reports.

• Developed and wrote credit and collection policies and procedures. Improved DSO from 50 days to 35 days.

• Evaluated and established corporate banking services including line of credit,

lock box, online reporting and overnight / short term investment utilizing surplus cash flow.

• Coordination and preparation of annual audits and audit schedules.

• Developed and implemented financial / cost control, inventory control programs that reduced losses from damage, aging and returns from 6% to 4% of Gross sales.

• Developed and wrote management policies and procedures that improved productivity and expedited internal information flow when annual revenues increased from $6 to $10 millions.

• Wrote new credit policies which reduced the average A/R aging from 95+ to 55 days.

1980-1985 Accountant: Cook’s Supermarket Cheverly, MD

Cooks Supermarket was a chain of 9 stores in three states.

• Managed the financial controls and accounting systems.

• Developed and monitored cost standards and controls, developed and administrated operating budgets and forecasts, supervised and coordinated the activities of the staff accountants / data processing and support staff.

• Developed and implemented an effective system of direct store receiving.

• Developed and supervised audit controls in payroll and physical inventory.

• Wrote personnel policy manual, which developed high moral among the employees.

1977-1980 Accountant: Lewis & Thos. Saltz Inc. Washington DC

A division of Lerners Corp. Lewis & Thos. Saltz was a retailer of high end Men’s and Women’s clothing.

• Shortage Control: Due to new store openings and high rate of inventory shrinkage, I assumed the responsibilities of Shortage Controller and Manager of Warehousing and Distribution. In that position I designed new forms and developed and implemented procedures in the following areas: (a) receiving of merchandise, (b) marking and price changes, (c) transfer of merchandise to branch stores, (d) vendor returns. As a result of these efforts one new store was stocked without any shortages reported. I was also responsible for conducting financial and operational audits.

1974-1977 Accounts Payable Manager: W & J Sloan Inc. Washington DC

Chain of retail furniture stores.

• Extended imports landing costs. Reconciled EDP reports and general Ledger. Handled vendor correspondence. Supervised the staff of 5 and assisted company’s auditors and other departments.
