PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

VOLUNTEER, MLA OFFICE ABBOTSFORD SOUTH — JUNE-

DECEMBER 2015

I volunteered twice a week at the MLA Abbotsford south office. I helped with database collections, constituent case work (MSP, CPP, MCFD,MSDSI), writing and sending cheques, office filing both hard and electronic, as well as quarterly office expenditure invoices. MLA Darryl VOLUNTEER, RAVENS MOON-TRANSITIONS SOCIETY — SEPTEMBER 2014-JULY 2015

I began volunteering as a support worker at Ravens Moon in September of 2014. It is a clean and sober transitional housing society with a myriad of residents. At the time there were ten houses (now twelve), seven for men, two for women and one for couples and families. The barriers faced by residents ranged from mental health disorders, such as Schizophrenia, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), addiction and depression, developmental challenges, such as Fetal Alcohol Syndrome

(FAS), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), as well as life threatening/altering diseases such as HIV and Hepatitis C. My duties as a support worker included supervising the household upkeep and the fair delegation of duties among residents. I arranged and provided transportation for residents to attend appointments such as methadone pick up, income assistance, doctors, AA meetings, probation etc. As many residents came from correctional institutions and/or out of province, my job included assisting residents with income assistance applications which often required acquiring government identification needed for such assistance.
