PROJECTS
Solar desalinization
Senior Design project – Orlando FL. January – December 2020
• Parabolic concentration of solar energy provides an opportunity to focus (concentrate) using parabolic mirror(s) to
rapidly bring a sample to boiling. Capturing the vapor in a condensing chamber/zone allows for rapid production of
modest amounts of fresh water.
• The scope of this project is to create a unit suitable for a single family of 4-5 people. Scalability to larger community
needs, can be addressed by replication of the family-sized unit. Since this application is intended for third world (or
emergency) use, heavy emphasis is placed on ease of manufacturing, ease of assembly, ease of maintenance, and
lifecycle-cost-per-gallon.
IDEAS showcase January - April 2019
