4.DUTIES IN CURRENT POSITION

Supervision of a team carrying out the following duties:

a) Maintenance/fault finding/repairs/installation to the production/services and research areas, also calibration/testing and recording of site safety systems. To ensure safe and reliable operation and minimise plant downtime and costs ensuring compliance with regulatory and corporate requirements.

b) Calibration and repair of all instrumentation on site. Ensuring compliance with current instrumentation regulations and safety procedures to satisfy regulatory and corporate requirements.

c) Ensure that all maintenance and calibration records are up to date and available for inspection on a day to day basis and available for internal and external audits.

d) Support the other maintenance teams within the engineering section. Assist in maintaining the engineering budget to reduce plant downtime and workload as appropriate.

e) Assist in providing technical and practical assistance to other sections and members of the department, to provide a quick response to problems without waiting for external consultants to be invited on site.

f) Able to manufacture and source various parts and components using a wide range of materials and equipment to minimise production downtime and costs.

g) Help to ensure that the training of apprentices and other trades within the engineering section reaches the required standards.

h) To keep up to date with changes in technology and new regulations. Obtaining greater knowledge, generating new ideas to produce cost saving and safer working environment.

5. ACHIEVEMENTS

a) TRIANGLE LIMITED (ZIMBABWE)

· Programmed ABB Samistar Drives Scalar Program and commissioned.

· Carried out and commissioned refinery expansion projects with the Section Instruments Engineer in the following areas:

-the new Gaudfrin Filter

-the new Deep Bed Filter

-the new Paglierani one tonne bagging machine

b) UMFOLOZI SUGAR MILL (SOUTH AFRICA)

· Adapting to Siemens (ORSI) DCS.

· Installation of Avery Berkel Scale for Final Molasses weighing.

· Upgrading of Mud Filtration Station.

· Upgrading of the Diffusion controller loops to DCS.

· Upgrading of Pan Floor B and C cutover and discharge valves to DCS through the use of ASI bus technology.

· Upgraded the Back End (Juice Preparation, Crystallisation and Sugar Despatch) DCS from ORSI to Yokogawa.

· Upgraded the Front End (Cane Preparation and Juice Extraction) and Power Generation(Steam Generation and Electricity Generation) DCS from ORSI to Yokogawa.
