To the office of Human Resources, University of Toronto, With dedication and enthusiasm, I am reaching out to express my sincere interest in the position of Sessional Lecturer in the Disability Studies programme. I believe I am uniquely qualified to fill this position as I have lived experience within the disability community, advanced clinical proficiency as a behavioural health clinician (BCBA), over seven-years managerial and supervision experience, and over five-years’ experience teaching and training those who wish to work in the field of behaviour health and wellness supports. I hold a Master of Applied Disability Studies (M.ADS, 2018) from Brock University’s Department of Applied Disability Studies where I was trained in advanced clinical behaviour analytic applications and comprehensive critical disability studies theory from a selection of Ontario’s finest female clinicians and academics. Additionally, I hold an Honours Bachelor of Arts double major in Disability Studies and Psychology with a minor in Linguistics and Literature
(B.A.[H], 2016) from the University of Windsor School of Social Work, Department of Psychology, and Department of Language, Literatures, and Cultures. I completed in the degree requirements for Canadian Social Work curriculum, advanced critical disability studies theory, the pedagogical inclusion of psychology (varieties of social, biological, and community psychology courses), as well as linguistics and literature requirements. I completed advanced thesis- practicum research in the field of critical and community disability studies during my final year. My comprehensive education combined with my life and work experience has created and refined my repertoire of skills in the field of multi-disciplinary health services, community and clinical psychological supports, mental health care for children through adulthood, and behavioural-health care and treatments. Over the last decade I have developed and refined my clinical competencies, I practice behavioural health treatment while staying true to multiple schools of thought and theories: I have unique and comprehensive training on incorporating a bio-psycho- social methodology of treatment, I conduct a family-centred/community-centered ‘circle of support’ approach, I implement a trauma-informed clinical practice, and work to maintain acutely aware of cultural and societal mechanisms that impact the therapeutic process (i.e. intersectionality, disability-forward, feminist theory, LGBTQ+, among others). Specifically, my experience has been focused on those with complex dual or multi-diagnosis; neuro- developmental disorders such as autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, ADD, cerebral palsy, and learning disabilities; and anxiety disorders such as obsessive-compulsive disorder, generalized anxiety, and specific phobias or fears. I have worked with clients aged 18 months old – 70 years old; the bulk of my experience has been with children and youth. In addition to my vast disability knowledge and understanding of the therapeutic process, I have multiple years’ experience managing junior and senior level clinicians, developing policies and procedures related to clinical proficiency, holding trainings and seminars with individuals inside and outside my field of expertise, participating in and conducting applied research projects, composed and effective crisis management skills, and completing administrative tasks related to the operations of a successful clinic or non-for profit organization. I operate having a high attention to detail, exceptional organization skills, vast computer skills, and have been described as a compassionate and amenable team member. I thrive when working alongside passionate, thoughtful, creative individuals who are as interested in expanding their own knowledge base as I am. I am devoted and hardworking and believe I would make an excellent addition to your team. To learn more about me, please find a full list of education and work experience below. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out. I can be contacted via email at addn86@r.postjobfree.com or by phone at 905-***-****.
