Cyber Security Analyst 3/17 to 11/1/2019

I was able to bring the Reno Veterans Affairs (VA) hospital from one of the lowest security postures in the nation, to being consistently in the top 4% for cybersecurity standards in the nation and consistently #1 in the western region. By remediating vulnerabilities such as the WannaCry virus and system security postures for over 4500 PC’s and servers. In addition to making sure that all government security audits were at 100% compliance at all times for all Reno Veterans Health Administration (VHA) and Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA) sites in a 300-mile radius. As well monitor, generate, file, update and maintain records for access at any time by the by Office of Inspector General (OIG) and all government auditors. Not only for the VHA but as one of a few people able to do the VBA at the same time. And bring the Veterans Benefits Administration up to the elevated level of cybersecurity standards that I established for the VHA. As part of my cybersecurity duties, I tracked down inventory discrepancies did account monitoring and reporting, unapproved software removal and processed all media types for media sanitization and certificate documentation. I brought down the number of Plan of Action and Milestone items down over 95% at my site and helped other sites in the western region reduce theirs by over 70%. And created the gold standard for the entire western region for security baseline practices for both the VHA and the VBA. All the while helping other VA hospitals such at Las Vegas, Greater LA, Fresno, Honolulu and San Francisco to bring their security up the highest standards to date while training new personal in cybersecurity for the region. I also worked on a national level with Western Statistics, Black Knight Data Analytics, Financial Services Center OIG, VA Enterprise Antivirus Team and several others to generate, file, update and maintain their cybersecurity.

Information Systems Coordinator, Reno, NV 1/10 to 3/17

Set up, configured and installed 800 new user’s computers, organized and repaired old computers for redistribution throughout the center. Greatly improved network and internet speeds so that the center became the fastest Job Corps in the country. Built a document management system that allowed the entire center greatly increased productivity as well as directly increased communication between staff. Created a both a work order website and a preventive maintenance website for both IT and building and grounds allowing for better security, tracking, searching and resolution of various problems through the center. Assisted staff in fixing and upgrading various workstation issues from viruses and reinstalls to troubleshooting firewall, LAN, WAN, fiber, switch and router problems. Including permissions across the entire western regional WAN for both internal users and external companies and individual users. As well as worked with both Oracle Databases and MS SQL databases. I created a full naming standard and security implementation handbooks that were adopted by the entire IT department. I managed to upgrade all of the web servers from Windows NT to Windows 2000 with no apparent downtime and also helped changing from SQL Server 7.0 to SQL Server 2000 at the same time.

SEM - Successfully created and managed Internet marketing campaigns that included: Rich Media Advertising, e-mail campaigns, banner ads, e-commerce sales events, newsletters and various promotional strategies. Over a one year period, site traffic had increased by 500%, with a 300% increase to online purchases.

Developed web applications for e-commerce, online portals, project management, and account automation. Web page optimization of navigation, load times, graphics, W3C cross-platform and browser compliance. This directly increased traffic & sales; and decreased maintenance and capital expenditures for the department.
