Principle responsibility was the continual improvement of the overall safety culture within the organization with strong emphasis on a strategy to reduce accidents and improve compliance with regulatory requirements. I was directly responsible for supervision of all field risk managers’ activities including task assignment, budget oversight, and their individual performance evaluations. I developed/implemented strategy to provide in-house delivery of new corporate mandated safety/compliance training programs (training designed to meet regulatory requirements while mirroring newly implemented corporate safety programs) across all facilities. I trained facility management on newly revised safety programs. I was directly involved in selection and personally trained all regional risk managers in their present job functions. I was a key member of the team that implemented a successfully audited (by 3rd party) SQF (Safe Quality Food) program at multiple facilities. Once developed, I delivered all mandated safety and compliance training to facilities within my designated areas (Eastern US). I was responsible for scheduling / ordering complete fiber needs for the three distinctive mills represented on the Austell site. I was responsible for negotiating pricing for all paper grades used on site. I was responsible for maintaining inventory ranges on all grades of paper within specified guidelines despite diverse/erratic run schedules of each mill. I was the liaison to all freight suppliers (both truck and rail) in regards to scheduling fiber shipments into the various mills. I was responsible for visiting supplier locations and pre-qualifying material prior to shipments as needed. I implemented and enforced safe-loading practices. During my service at the Austell complex, my training and/or certifications included:

Assistant Quality Coordinator,

Caraustar - Sweetwater Paperboard Mill, Austell, GA, March, 1987-Jan., 2002

I was initially hired as the first company “extra-board,” filling in for various department employees’ days off/vacation. I was promoted to full-time status handling recycled paper offloading in the Waste Receiving Department. I was promoted to paper tester in the QC (Quality Control) lab in early 1988. My responsibilities included all physical and aqueous testing of finished product to customer specifications. My responsibilities also included mill chemical systems operations during my shift. I was promoted to Assistant Quality Coordinator in July 1995. My responsibilities included shared responsibility (w/ Quality Coordinator) of the mill’s entire chemical inventory, including purchasing, daily usage and monthly budget reporting as well as the administrative maintenance of Kronos payroll functions for the QC lab staff. I developed/maintained a computerized cross-referential chemical database for the mill. I was responsible for the departmental supply purchases. I was responsible for the negotiation of commodity chemical purchases. I maintained the lab test equipment. I was responsible for all MSDS record keeping. I was assigned responsibility for conduction of bi- annual audiometric testing for mill work areas and job functions. I was the administrator of all departmental job hazard analysis reports. Towards the end of my service with Sweetwater, they began training me as the Assistant Safety Coordinator for the mill. I applied for and was chosen to be the Doraville Recycling Plant Manager in the Recovered Fiber Group Division.
