Objective: Return to full-time engagement in a different setting for a few more years, preferably in India or in the Gulf region. (I had to take off for Assam, India, in 2013 to take care of a few family matters. One thing led to another, keeping me busy. I should be free by this April.)

Work: 1985-2012-Trial Lawyer. Mainly work- Criminal Trials and Appeals. Some work in the Immigration & Nationality laws and Commercial matters. Extensive trial –both Jury and Bench Trials, and Appellate works, before the DC Superior Court and the DC Court of Appeals. A few matters before the DC District Court and the Court of Appeals for the DC Circuit. Honed the skills of representation, of cogently articulating the Facts, the Issues Raised, the Applicable Laws and Regulations, and, the Arguments in support of my Clients interests. In short, I acquired and honed the skills of persuasive representation. Thus, now I can effectively discern the Issues, cogently articulate Them, and Preserve, Protect, and Realize them for the Clients.

1983-1985: Associate, McNabb Preston & Waxman. 1300 K Street, NW. Washington, DC. Represented Clients before the various Agencies of the US Government; sought to ensure Clients Interests, Wishes, and, obtain funding for their economic developments, and employment generation schemes etc. Secured Ad Hoc funding for American Samoa from the Department of Agriculture (under the Smith Act) to employ the laid off Tuna Canneries (the Canneries were being refurbished, a need procedure after each few years!); worked with the 7th Floor Aides and Staff (of HUD Secretary Samuel Pierce) and devised a Scheme and the Artifice to secure or extend HUD mortgage subsidies for the Hawaiians, American Indians, and other Pacific Islanders despite the Latter’s not allowing their respective Members of the community hold Title to the Land in Fee Simple! Also: prepared a Computer Software Licensing Agreements for a Client.

1969-1971, Lecturer, Political Science. Post-graduate (MA) Classes, Gauhati University, Assam, India.

Summer Works: 1971, 1972, and 1973 with the Southwestern Company, Nashville, TN. Door to door book sales in Pennsylvania, Ohio and Indiana. Summer 1975, Center for Defense Information (CDI), Washington, DC –briefed on the strategic-defense related developments affecting the Indian Ocean. Worked on the Defense Monitor,, the monthly publication of the CDI (a Fund for Peace entity). Part-time work, 1975-1977 in Washington, DC while working on my dissertation at my assigned Research Scholars’ Desk at US Library of Congress, Washington, DC.

Awards and Honors: Merit Scholar throughout in India. Garner Fellow during the PhD program. Innumerable awards and Honors during the entire Student life. The Best Debater; The Best Extempore Speaker; The Best Mock Parliamentarian; The Best Actor. Was awarded The Best Student of the Year 1965-66, Ramjas College; The Best Student of the Class in 1968, in Gauhati University, and was awarded the Gandhi Memorial Trophy. Active in Student government throughout, represented University in All India Student Conclaves, All India Debates.

Social Commitments: Actively participated in social and community affairs in India. Active participation in international student affairs while in Ole Miss, USA. Active and leading roles in organizing Asian Indian associations and organizations, Incorporator of the Indian American Forum for Political Education (IAEPE) (with Dr. Joy Cherian, Ph.D., and Ms.Achama). Founder-Incorporator –the Assam Foundation of North America (AFNA) and Assam Association of North America (AANA), active in Assam Sahitya Sabha North America branch. Actively participated in our local Community matters, in our Son’s School matters throughout from Kindergarten to Graduation, organized Fund Raising events for our son’s School Band (West Springfield High School, Fairfax County, VA), accompanied the Band everywhere as part of the Pit Crew, took active part in their field trips as part of their Applied History class, member of University of Southern California (USC) Parents. Write on matters about the US and in India. Wrote a regular column –The Letter From USA for The Assam Tribune--the Premier English daily of Assam. Wrote for the US Arms Control Association on naval arms control matters. Speak to Groups and Associations in India and also here in the USA.

Personal: Married, US Citizen, Overseas Indian Citizen (OCI). Fluent in: English, Assamese, Bengali and Hindi. Wife –an MA in Philosophy, a housewife. One son 32, married, USC Engineering graduate (1909), worked with the PRC, and with E&Y, Senior Project Manager, MBA, Georgetown University, 2019, Now, Manager, Verizon, Inc.. Daughter in Law: Double M.S. (Agricultural Econ., and, in Accounting), CPA. with E & Y.
