Lead Senior Electronics Engineering Program Manager for PANAMA Control System Project

Currently operate as Program Manager for the new Panama control system Project. Responsible for specification, design control, timing, program and financial targets. Working in tight collaboration with all company internal resources and various external suppliers and designers.

New Technology Consultants (NTC) (Rome, Italy, Ukraine, Florida, Japan, Europe) 2007 – May 2019

Founded and is lead consultant of a high-technology consultancy group actively involved in engineering redesigns, problem-solving, engineering division turnarounds, resolution of time-to-market issues, product design, and production issues. Clients include high-profile firms with operations in East and Western Europe, North America Far East. Created the firm and have brought it to profitability with a number of major clients.

President and Lead Consultant

Currently operate as Lead Consultant and contact in the Contractual, bidding, organization and execution for five major turn-around, DFMA based technology innovation programs with large customers: UBC, EUROTECH, PARKER, ZOPPAS IRCA, LU-VE, SEST.

Consultant responsible for analysis, redesign and optimization of the engineering /production group at the UBC plant in Kharkiv (Ukraine). DFMA was extensively used and courses were given to engineering and production personnel. In this activity the existing data has been extracted, analyzed, corrected as far as operations, processes, structure and quality issues go. The root causes were then determined to enhance efficiency and eliminate delays and waste. These actions, are closely coordinated with the production group in the areas of New product development and optimization of Modifications with particular focus on standardization of less and more simplified parts. Extensive training and Coaching was also performed on site using 6 Sigma and DFMA techniques.

Engineering Consultancies given to various Companies such as SEST S.r.L., Thermo Glass Door (TGD) and Refill-Tech S.r.L. on DFMA, new technology analysis, design and product optimization.

Responsible for Analysis, Technical Due diligence and requalification of a Japanese design and production facility in OKAYAMA for the Italian owner EUROTECH S.p.A. (Udine). This well-rounded activity has been extremely articulated and had as objective the streamlining of the production process to return to efficiency and cost effectiveness while enhancing productivity. All facets of the process were worked on with very positive results. (Inventory down by almost 24% and turns up by 6 times).

Completed a “green field” development project with a dedicated research, development, and test laboratory in Florida for Source, Inc., as part of a large program for ARSENAL, a private-equity group that acquired an HVAC commercial field service group that is expanding on the east coast. Assignment is to add intellectual property in the form of refrigeration technology patents and systems configurations.

Two major projects in Europe involved full restructuring of the R&D process and re-engineering the core business processes for firms manufacturing controller boards for OEM durable goods.

Diebold Corporation (EMEA), Canton, Ohio & Ivrea, Italy 2002–2007

The former Olivetti ATM division that had been acquired by Diebold and was in the process of developing a new generation ATM design that has been launched and is now on the market.

Director of R&D, Hardware (EMEA)

Led the restructuring of the company to fit into Diebold’s global engineering organization. Realigned the organization to achieve modern DFMA design responses to profit-and-loss imperatives and supervised an engineering staff of 105. After 3 and one-half years, closed the Italy plant and moved hardware design to China and software development to Canton. Was directly responsible for the creation of hardware products and proactive deployment of the corporate strategy. Planned and administered a budget of more than €25M and managed a large group of high-level reports and their teams.

Organized and managed the close-down of the Ivrea hardware facility taking into account the company’s needs, complex Italian and EU laws, union relations, and the high profile components of the internal team. Maintained a tight schedule and budget, saving the company more than €1M.

Devised and implemented the strategic development of all Diebold EMEA hardware products including integration with 3rd party hardware and application software.

Key participant in complex merger-and-acquisition (M&A) programs and coordinated post-acquisition integration of targeted companies. Led planning and negotiations for four targeted deals valued at up to $55M, two of which were successfully completed.

Invensys Software Systems – Washington, D.C. & Rome, Italy 1999–2002

Part of a large holding company with a number of divisions. Based in Plain City Ohio, and Archamps, France, the company has operations in Europe and North America.

European Vice President, of New Business & Technology, 2001–2002

Identified new market opportunities and acted to turn around troubled business units, especially APV. Identified problems and implemented production changes within the organizations. Identified new and promising technological marketing and sales opportunities and re-engineered programs to streamline product output in response to market demands. Involved daily in board-level analysis and implement process reengineering within this multicultural, multi-company environment. Structured and delivered courses in project and program management, communication, team building, lean enterprise, and production.

Correctly valued and managed acquisition integration of two major deals valued at roughly $20M US each.

European Technical Director / VP Engineering, Invensys Climate Controls, 1999–2001

Coordinated the merger of engineering functions for five related companies acquired by Invensys, including firms in major European countries and suppliers in the Far East. Had been Technical Director for one absorbed company and was promoted to become VP and Technical Director for the entire Invensys Climate Controls European Division. Had complete P&L responsibility for the European business unit. Coordinated five different engineering development offices in Italy, the United Kingdom, Germany, and Belgium through six Engineering Managers. Restructures them according to DFMA and 6-Sigma principles. The structure comprised 82 engineers, technicians, and support staff and developed European and International Inter-company projects. The total payroll budget was $4.5M US and total R&D budget was $14M US.

Key in managing the fusion process that brought the original five companies into a single lean enterprise with integrated engineering and production function.

Reorganized the company and critical business processes, saving more than €8M while maintaining functionality and responsiveness.

Determined the division’s strategic plan and future divisional technological direction.

Launched five new products and brought new product sales from 3% to 9.8 % of budget.

Eliwell / Microtech SpA (Siebe / Invensys) – Belluno, Italy 1997–1999

The company manufactured control systems for commercial refrigeration and HVAC. Its products were the top-ranking utilizers of Motorola microprocessors in Europe and generated sales ranging to €125M. The firm was acquired by Invensys.

Technical Director

Led the transformation from a local, single -owner structure to integration with Invensys, a multinational company (above). Reorganized the company, trimmed superfluous resources, and implemented ISO 9000 qualifying processes.

Directed all technical development programs and, upon acquisition of the firm was promoted to European Technical Director for Climate Controls Europe.

Program and technical responsibility for commercial refrigeration and air conditioning electronic controls and systems. Report directly to the Managing Director.

On the Board of Directors of both Eliwell and Microtech and responsible for a combined Eliwell/Microtech technical office of 45 engineers and technicians.
