Professional Experience

New Jersey Institute of Technology, Newark, NJ

Mechanical Engineer (1/2015 – 12/2019)

Performed mechanical engineering services for various clients, including New Jersey Institute of Technology staff and students, mechanical researchers and doctors. Conducted force, stress, strain and vibration testing on engineering materials and student engineering projects. Interacted with clients via email, phone and in-person to ascertain needs and provide updates on project progress/results. Maintained detailed logs of all projects from initiation to completion.

Supervised, trained and mentored assistants, including training on 3D printers and mechanical tools. Analyzed and compared ladder logic diagrams to digital logic symbols and state diagrams. Developed, programmed and tested ladder logic programs in industrial applications. Converted ladder logic to its Boolean equivalent and employed Boolean techniques to simplify and analyze complex ladder logic programs.

Key Achievements:

Consistently ensured all designs aligned with American Society of Mechanical Engineering Standards (ASME) for Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).

Demonstrated strong comprehension of techniques for applying basic motor control and automation theory to digital and analog applications.

Created structured programs for PLC controls via a Visual Basic interface.

Exhibited ability to apply specialized PLC functions such as counters, timers, specialized relays, high speed counters, latches and arithmetic functions.

Played key role in planning and implementation of innovative strategies that led to improved processes, increased volumetric efficiency and minimized cost.

Complied fully with all government regulations and standard operating procedures (SOP).

Delivered all projects ahead of schedule and at minimal cost.

Implemented several mechanical attachments for a palm nailer model – milled out a portion of the cylindrical shaft and placed a magnet inside the rubber to better hold the screw inside of the mini palm nailer; and engineered an ergonomic gel pad to minimize vibration, which involved 3D prototype printing using CURA software.

Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Union, NJ

Transportation Security Officer (12/2004 – Present)

Perform searches and screenings of passengers and baggage to identify and confiscate prohibited items, weapons, explosives, or other destructive devices. Implement risk-based security screening protocols based on program requirements, observations, and critical thinking skills. Operate various equipment and technology, including scanners, metal detectors, hand-held wands, and scales. Control terminal entry and exit points; verify credentials, IDs, and tickets. Interfaced with members of the public, aircrew, colleagues, and other individuals; answer questions and provide directions. Ensure compliance with all SOPs, federal regulations and TSA policies.

Key Achievements:

Leverage mechanical, technical and testing expertise in operating security equipment, including explosive trace and vapor particle detection, conducting chemical and statistical analysis on test swabs, and routinely calibrating and troubleshooting all security-related equipment.

Integral in enhancing processes, increasing volumetric efficiency and minimizing costs by aiding in implementation of improvement strategies and innovative security measures for outbound aviation travel.

Successfully maintained sharp focus and situational awareness in highly stressful, demanding environment with high levels of background noise from individuals, equipment and alarms.

As Acting Lead Transportation Officer, coordinated, scheduled, trained and mentored; reported to senior managers and human resources department regarding performance, promotions, and other matters.

Utilized Performance Management Information System (PMIS) and Airport Information Management (AIM) modules, as well as Matrix Systems and systemic model of calculating wait times for passengers.

Boosted overall awareness of security measures, and played key role in recommending and implementing new security measures.

Recognized with numerous awards and commendations from senior management.

New York City Technical College, Brooklyn, NY

Mechanical Engineering Consultant (4/2000 – 9/2001)

Provided engineering support and developed solutions for HVACR sheet metal and duct design in alignment with municipal building codes. Utilized flow hoods and boilers, and performed burning and heating analysis on all HVACR equipment.

Key Achievements:

Instrumental in streamlining operations by conducting cost and optimization analysis for HVACR design, and assisting with air flow wind tunnel testing and composition of engineering reports.

Successfully maintained sharp focus and situational awareness in highly stressful, demanding environment with high levels of background noise from individuals, equipment, and alarms.

Awarded John V. Budjenski Award for Perseverance.

Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Union, NJ

Lead Transportation Security Officer (5/1999 – 9/2007)

Supervised and scheduled team of up to 30 to meet workflow requirements. Provided mentoring and training, addressed complaints and grievances, and advised senior managers and human resource professionals on performance, promotions, and other personnel matters. Controlled entry and exit points, screened passengers, and verified IDs, tickets, and credentials. Operated scanners, metal detectors, hand-held wands, scales, and other equipment/technology. Searched baggage, identified individuals for additional questioning, and confiscated prohibited items.

Key Achievements:

Maintained full compliance with federal regulations, TSA policies, and standard operating procedures (SOP).
