International Student Emergency Health Plan

International students are an important part of our culture and academic fabric at Booth University College. We value the many contributions that each of you makes that enrich our learning environment. We are contacting you today to follow-up on recent changes made to healthcare coverage for international students in Manitoba. Earlier this year the Province of Manitoba made a decision to repeal universal health benefits

(Manitoba Health) for all international students, beginning September 1, 2018. This means that all international students in Manitoba will be responsible for obtaining and financing their own healthcare benefits.

What does this mean for you? Booth University College is committed to supporting you during your studies. In response to the Manitoba Health change, Booth UC has worked diligently to ensure that international students have an affordable, comprehensive and easy to use plan to replace what was provided by the province. We have partnered with Gallivan – Student Health and Wellness to offer an International Student Health Plan. The Plan will provide 12-months of coverage that will start on September 1, 2018, through to August 31, 2019 at a cost of $730.00 (single student).

Important Information you need to know

The International Student Health Plan will cover many of the same items that are currently covered under Manitoba Health. It also excludes coverage for supplementary health, similar to current Manitoba Health benefits. Details of the International Student Health Plan will be communicated to you in early August (see below).

Purchasing International Student Health Plan coverage is mandatory for all international students registered at Booth UC. The Plan does not include family dependents, although coverage for eligible dependant family members is available. Should you wish to purchase coverage for family members, you will need to make an add-on application to Gallivan and submit payment to them for the cost of an additional family rate. If preferred, you are able make your own arrangements for health insurance coverage for dependent family members. Next Steps

You do not need to register or apply for the International Student Health Plan. This will be done automatically and included in your payments to Booth UC. A representative from Gallivan will be in touch with you via email in early August with further details on your coverage and how to purchase family coverage. They will discuss how to use your plan, how to get your health coverage wallet card and direct billing card. They will also explain how to access hospital and clinics and other care providers along with the claim submission process. A Gallivan representative will be on campus later in August to answer your questions, the dates of which will be communicated to you in the August e-mail.

We wish you every success in your studies.
