WORK EXPERIENCE

August 2019 - Present The Immigration Institute of the Bay Area (IIBA), Legal Aid

Currently working as the lead caseworker in the U/T Visa division of the IIBA Oakland office. Assist in weekly intake and consultations with new clients. Conduct meetings and document drafting sessions with clients who are eligible for U Visas and T visas. Collaborate with clients to draft their personal declarations recounting the abuse they experienced to submit alongside of their visa application. Provide on-going document and in-person Spanish/English translation services. Organize and implement workshops, clinics, outreach activities and information sessions for immigrants and social service agencies serving immigrants. Manage client communications in person, on the phone, and by mail.

Fall 2018 – July 2019 Más Respiración Consciente, Translator

Translated conscious breathing manual, accompanying instruction materials and video platforms from original Spanish to English.

Winter 2018 – Summer 2018 UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, Intern

Created a database to input and sort data on amendments tabled since the establishment of the Human Rights Council in order to analyse trends in Council resolutions. Drafted a report on the Human Rights Council’s usage of ad-hoc mechanisms. Launched and maintained the Human Rights Council Instagram page. Assisted public information officers by engaging in media monitoring, transcribing press conference records, editing and uploading social media content and updating factsheets and other outreach materials. Supported human rights officers in the Human Rights Council resolution tabling, editing and voting procedures for the thirty-eighth session of the Council.

Summer 2016 Center for Islam and Religious Freedom, Legal Research Intern

Assisted Asma Uddin, Esq. in legal research for law school courses and publications. Compiled and briefed domestic and international religious freedom cases. Analysed primary and secondary sources related to religious freedom. Engaged in inter-faith dialogues in an effort to combat Islamophobia.
