Career Experience

SCHILLING ROBOTICS (acquired by TechnipFMC, 2012), Davis, CA 03/2012 – 04/2020 Principal Mechanical Engineer (2019 – 2020)

Senior Mechanical Engineer (2012 – 2019)

Executed product development, product redesign, and process improvements for complex electro-mechanical systems

(advanced undersea ROVs and manipulator arms) and manufacturing processes. Oversaw product requirements, technical specifications, CAD design and FEA in SolidWorks Simulation, rapid prototyping, and test method and tooling design to improve sealing surfaces, tolerances, materials, and production processes. Managed relationships with local and international suppliers including machine shops, injection molders, and extrusion and casting houses for prototypes and production parts. Performed Test engineer functions for ROV frame development.

– Principal Mechanical Engineer:

Optimized latch design for a hydraulic torque tool in collaboration with engineering team utilizing Set-Based Design

(SBD) and rapid prototyping.

Redesigned subsea optical communications system: performed Root Cause Analysis (RCA) of original design and transitioned to new, illumination-based communications assembly.

Developed a simple method of sealing soldered electrical connections at subsea pressures over 6000 psi.

Designed and developed novel subsea connector assembly with electrical and fiber optic connections; qualified polymer vendor, created test methods and tooling, and gained buy-in from partner organizations.

Created test equipment (pressure vessels and internal components) for in-situ evaluation.

Created and maintained specification and quality documentation for subsea ancillary equipment

– Senior Mechanical Engineer:

Became Subject Matter Expert (SME) on corrosion. Resolved corrosion issue on 3 critical products through Root Cause Analysis (RCA), materials evaluations, process improvements, and tooling analysis.

Expedited ROV propulsion system project that was behind schedule. Improved testing efficiency and designed propeller solution that reduced cost and increases ease of repair.

Eliminated quality control issue in circuit board assembly through process improvement including novel “air pillow” system.

Engaged regularly with QA as MRB for discrepant material disposition and corrective action

Spearheaded design of pressure resistant electrical connectors (penetrators) that are Form, Fit, Function (FFF) equivalents of existing product. Reduced a four-supplier, QA and testing intensive process to a single source; slashed costs 50% and increased pressure test pass rate from 30% to 100%. Daniel Mattsson-Boze Page 2

CUREXO TECHNOLOGY CORP. (THINK Surgical), Fremont, CA 11/2007 – 10/2011 System Hardware Manager

Led 5-person engineering team to design and improve surgical robotics and instrumentation. Developed and validated tool paths for specific implants for ROBODOC Surgical Assistant. Updated libraries, implemented new applications, and managed customer service and manufacturing staff.

Reverse engineered and developed a SCARA robotic arm for robotic orthopedic hip and knee implant surgery.

Redesigned cutting sleeves of surgical robot; increased field life from a few hours to 6 months.

Trained and operated surgical robot in clinical settings. SYNVASIVE TECHNOLOGY, INC. (acquired by Zimmer, 2012), El Dorado Hills, CA 07/2005 – 10/2007 Manager of Product Development

Coordinated 6-person engineering team responsible for development of medical devices and products involving design reviews, prototyping, and analysis. Designed and implemented manufacturing process improvements.

Developed and managed the release of surgical knee pressure sensor, Libra, for soft tissue balancing during knee joint replacement surgery, including developing sensor suppliers, molders and ultrasonic welding manufacturing processes per ISO 13485 guidelines.

Revamped the labeling and packaging process of surgical saw blades from a manual, week-long process to an on- demand database driven application; increased accuracy and consistency and freed up engineering time.

Automated ECOs and documentation process by implementing PLM/PDM and designing an electronic signature process; increased ECO throughput and reduced review and sign-off process from 1 week to 2-3 hours.

Improved surgical saw blade manufacturing time from 30 days to 1 week through CAD optimization. Education Credentials
