The Preparation Centres role is to make a vehicle’s ready for retail sale, this starts with being booked onto site, an initial inspection, mechanical repairs, bodywork and paint, final inspection, publishing on the internet and transportation to sales sites.

I am directly responsible for forty plus staff including their rotas, time management, annual leave, one to ones and disciplinary procedures, my duties also include the health and safety for the site making sure that daily work schedule is completed in a safe and within budget.

Evan’s Halshaw Vehicle Prep Centre, Milton Keynes. June 2019 to Jan 2020

The Vehicle Inspection Team carry out a comprehensive 128-point vehicle check and complete an electronic report on each inspection, this information is then used as a base to create a job card of repairs to be carried out by the workshop to make the cars ready for transportation to dealerships.

As the team leader I am responsible for the four onsite inspectors and up to five mobile inspectors, my duties include arranging rosters and absence cover, audits of the inspectors and inspections, one to ones, managing workloads to ensure the target amount of inspections per week is met and make sure my team is up to date with training and current inspection standards.

Workshop Based in East Tamaki, New Zealand. April 2018 to April 2019

I was part of the team of mechanics responsible for keeping a modern fleet of public and school buses serviced and maintained to a very high standard, this involved planned maintenance and reactive repairs to faults and breakdowns using manufactures diagnostic software and my own mechanical knowledge to diagnose and then to repair the vehicles. After six months I had proved myself capable enough to be offered the Workshop Manager role at one of our other depots, but I declined due to the fact I was leaving New Zealand.

Working as part of a shift to service and maintain an urban and school visa and coach fleet this included preparation for COF, engine and transmission removal repair and refitting, diagnostic fault finding and any internal and external bodywork required. All work was completed to the required high standards and on time as to not interrupt the bus schedules.

I also was part of an on call rota to provide out of workshop hours mechanic cover when requested.

Principle duties are to service, diagnose, and rectify vehicle faults with a first time fix policy on repairs to reduce lost time, to ensure all relevant paperwork is completed to a high standard and to comply with all legislation regarding wheel fitment procedure, also to inspect and prepare vehicles for annual VOSA inspections.

I am also expected to keep up to date with current health and safety requirements and ensure that I and others around me are working safely.

Piacentini and Son are vehicle, equipment and personnel contractor that are employed in Australia in support of various mining companies.

My role is to repair and maintain all types of vehicles and plant owned by the company this covers anything from smaller bulldozers to the largest excavators, this has included being in charge of a workshop repairing small plant including but not limited to lighting towers, compressors and forklifts.

You are also responsible for the continuing training of the company’s apprentices that are working with you and compiling with all health and safety requirements up to mine site specifications.

Ground Maintenance and Street Cleansing Fitter Woking

Serco Local Government and Commercial. March 2009 to September 2012

Serco is the provider of grounds maintenance and street cleansing for Woking Borough Council. This includes cutting of grassed areas, maintaining housing sites, inspecting and repairing play equipment, emptying of litter and dog waste bins and cleaning the streets and town centres.

I was responsible for the maintenance and servicing of all equipment involved in the day to day running of the contract operation.

This has involved implementing new defect reporting systems, to enable monitoring of equipment repair cost and downtime with an auditable record of maintenance, I also organise the service and repair of the vehicle fleet including the O licence compliant vehicles by dealing with external repairers and fleet hire companies.

I am part of the Health and Safety Committee for the site, and have been involved in the creating of COSHH and LOLAR registers which has helped Woking attain constant high Health and Safety audit results.

Multi Skilled Mechanic Ottershaw Depot

South East Coast Ambulance Service. March 2008 to December 2008

The South East Coast Ambulance Service is the amalgamation of three counties ambulance services and provides emergency response to the south coast areas and all support associated to this role.

As part of a team of mechanics my main role was to ensure that the fleet of ambulances that operate from the Chertsey station where operational and maintained to the highest standard as and when required.

To do this we serviced the ambulances on a six weekly schedule to comply with O licence legislation and we also reacted to faults found by the crews when checking vehicles before and after a shift.

We had to ensure all paperwork, parts requests and repair records were kept up to date again to comply with O licence requirements.

As the requirement for mechanical support was dictated by the nature of the role I also made myself available to cover the night shifts as and when required.

Priory Events organises and runs corporate team building and reward events, and also experience days for small groups and individuals

At Priory Events I repaired and maintained a fleet of land rovers, quad bikes and apache off road carts, as well as the teambuilding equipment. To do this I set up an electronic servicing roster and fault tracking system to effectively allow me to keep all equipment in a safe working condition.

I had to create good business relationships with local suppliers for parts, workshop consumables and major repairs as well as Mot’s when required.

I also was involved in the planning, organising and running of corporate events and team building days for clients as part of and leading a team of instructors and catering staff.

HGV 2 Driver

Driver Hire is an employment agency that supplies all classes of drivers to the transport industry

Whilst working for Driver Hire my duties where to report to various companies as directed by the office personnel and provide HGV 2 driver cover for them.

Each day could be a different company so a flexible approach was required whilst still being polite professional and courteous at all times. Knowledge of road legislations governing driving hours was essential as was the ability to load and sheet correctly.

After a six-month period I achieved their Approved Driver qualification for my consistent good feedback from employers.

As a Used Car Sales Executive, it was my role to guide customers through all the aspects of purchasing a used car from Sandicliffe.

The sales process involved prospecting for customers using the telephone and also following up on web site enquires with specific requirements, meeting customers on the forecourt and using the Sandicliffe process to qualify their needs and provide them with a suitable option of car and ways to purchase.

This involved a great deal of both electrical and mechanical fault finding as well as being able to adapt modern spares to repair obsolete pieces of equipment to enthusiast levels of detail.

The work was both frustrating and extremely rewarding especially when getting a non-running vehicle or piece of equipment, to be able to be task worthy again and then sold on to do the work it was designed for.
