Clinical Experience

CLINICAL SITE LIBERTY DAYTON REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER 2019

(EVALUATOR: LEE PETER S. SAMSON BSMT AMT) (LABORATORY MANAGER)

·My duties as a student:

oGeneralist: Hematology, Coagulation, Urinalysis, Chemistry and Blood Bank.

oHematology: Check for clots in the EDTA tube in the lab after drawing a patient. Run EDTA samples under supervision in the XN-550 Sysmex analyzer and read slides if positive. Instructed to run QC, troubleshoot and calibrate if necessary.

oCoagulation: After receiving a sodium citrate tube sample after phlebotomy I was instructed to run the sample through the ACL ELITE coagulation analyzer and report results to my supervisor/instructor. I was also tasked to run QC and calibrate if need be.

oUrinalysis: I was instructed on how to use the Siemens Diagnostic 1780 Clinitek Status+ Urinalysis Analyzer, read the urine sample if there is a positive asterisk and report results to supervisor/ instructor.

oChemistry: I have experience running the Cobas 6000 from Roche and reporting results to my supervisor and running QC and preparing reagents.

oBlood Bank: I was also instructed in performing forward and reverse immediate spin crossmatch under supervision.

CLINICAL SITE HCA CLEARLAKE 2020

·My duties as a student:

oMicrobiology: I was instructed to read agar plates and to run RVP’s and samples during the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic and analyzers such as the VEREGENE Bacteria and Virus Identification, including MRSA screening and reporting results to my supervisor/instructor.

·This was a part time job and program for high school students to earn money for college and to gain experience in the workforce.

oTo deliver massive heavy amounts of books by cart to teachers for testing at long distances and being able to lift 50 lbs or more.
