PROJECTS

Volume Estimation of Food

Jan. 2020 to May 2020

Monocular images of food will be used to detect the volume of food items present in the picture. Birds eye-view, frame transforms, visual SFM etc. were used. The different methods were explored. Traditional computer vision techniques such as contour detection, birds-eye view, frame transforms using cameras co-ordinates as well as SFM (Structure from Motion) were used. The performance of these techniques was compared with that of a fully connected neural network was done. Python was used for all coding. MeshLab was used to convert the 3D point cloud obtained from SFM to a convex hull to calculate the volume.

Detection of mental state of a human using EEG signals

Jan. 2020 to May 2020

Collection, pre-processing, feature extracting (MATLAB was used) and application of Random forest, SVM and Deep learning to EEG signals for emotion detection was done (Python was used)

Design of FANUC work cell and programming of robot for epoxy packaging

Aug. 2019 to Dec. 2019

Given epoxy packaging with constraints, suitable robot, end effector, sensors, actuators etc. were selected and programmed to perform the task in RoboGuide simulation by setting up a virtual work cell. The wiring diagrams and torque analysis was done. Bill of materials was prepared, and cost was estimated by acquiring prices from quotations, catalogs and online sources. All coding required to control the robot in simulation was done using 'Teach Pendant Programming'.

Natural language processing for structured text generation

Aug. 2019 to Dec. 2019

Style specific text i.e. lyrics that are similar but not the same as the lyrics of existing songs by these artists is generated, Two pre-trained models, 1) a 3-layer AWD-LSTM model, trained on 100 million tokens from Wikipedia articles 2) a 1-layer LSTM model, trained on Amazon’s data set of Nietzsche’s work were then then trained on a data-set of song lyrics. The performance of both the models were compared {Python was used for this project}

Mobile robot path planning using convolutional neural networks and reinforcement learning

Aug. 2019 to Dec. 2019

Path planning for a mobile robot is done using convolutional neural networks (CNN) as well as using reinforcement learning (RL). The data base used for training the models consists of mazes. It is then tested on city maps converted to 2D occupancy grids. CNN has 3 convolutional layers and max pooling layers to extract spatial information and two fully connected layers that follow and is responsible for high level decision making. Reinforcement learning used Q learning. The results from both are compared and analyzed {Python was used}

Autonomous mobile manipulator

Jan. 2019 to June 2019

Simultaneous Localization and Mapping is done using Xtion depth sensor, Object detection was done, Manipulator (ALB5 Arm robot) was controlled using Inverse Kinematics {MATLAB and ROS were used}

Real time EMG controlled arm robot using machine learning

Jan. 2019 to June 2019

EMG signals from forearm collected using Mayo Armband for different hand gestures, pre-processing and feature extraction performed and hand gestures classified using the three Machine Learning techniques -SVM, LDA and Random Forest,the classification model using SVM is used for real-time control of the arm robot (ALB5 Arm Robot) {MATLAB was used}

FlairBot: Detecting a bottle using pixy cam, opening the cap and pouring the content out

Aug. 2018 to Dec. 2018

Coding pixy cam to detect a color, writing code in Arduino to pick the bottle up, place it in a gripper and open the cap, Use Arduino to control the arm (ALB5 Arm Robot) and pour the contents of the bottle out {MATLAB was used}

Design of gas safety device to reduce domestic gas accidents

Aug. 2016 to Dec. 2016

Selecting suitable temperature sensor and gas sensor, designing a control system to actuate valves that control gas supply and sends an alarm in case of danger, create a cost-effective prototype {Arduino was used}

Experimental studies & performance analysis of level process & it's control

Aug. 2016 to Dec. 2016

Observe the experimental setup of a two tank non-interacting system, Using the experimental data to obtain the transfer function and use it to create MATLAB model, compare conventional controllers with fuzzy logic controllers {MATLAB was used}

Analysis and Management of Cricket Data

Sept. 2012 to Jan. 2013

Used C++ to sort data of various cricket players, edit data when required and calculated the number of centuries scored, total runs acquired, mean runs per over (6 balls), wickets taken and various other parameters of importance as per the rules of the game. Class 'Player' is defined with behaviors (functions) and attributes (variables) as required for the above operation. Other Classes include 'Batsman', 'Bowler' etc. There are global function to track the youngest players, youngest bat's man, youngest bowler, the retired players to name a few. The compiler used was Borland C++
