Duration : 15th June 2009 – 15 Oct 2010
Role : Technical Specialist, Analysis, Design & Implementation
Environment : COBOL, VSAM, DB2, CICS, MQ, Data Power
Description :
Medco(ESI) has a lot of applications on the Web-MQ-Mainframe architecture. The project that Galax E Solutions worked on involved changing the architecture to Web-XML-Data Power-Mainframe framework. The architecture was already designed by the Medco team and the mainframe CICS transactions were required to be changed to fit into the new architecture. The CICS transactions used MQ series as communication method in the old architecture. In the new architecture, the transaction will be part of a service that will be called by the front end through Datapower and the data is passed as XML. Even though Datapower has the ability to translate the XML format into a COBOL copybook format, the design team in Medco decided to restrict Datapower to only conduct the call the CICS transaction and relay the response XML back to the front end.
As part of the development work, the CICS transaction code on the mainframe code had be found, analyzed & changed to the new architecture. The MQ part of the transaction were removed and a parser is generated and put in place for each service. The parser is the transaction that the Datapower hits when the service is requested. The parser will translate the XML into a COBOL copybook format and send the request to the application programs which in turn will do the business function. The response in COBOL copybook format is sent back to the parser which converts the data back to XML format and the response is relayed back to the Datapower. Datapower in turn relays the response back to the front end that initiated the request.
Responsibilities :
Architectural assessment, System Analysis & Design of Mainframe components for the new SOA architecture
Analysis of MQ programs, design, coding & unit testing to work as a web service
Development of Datapower Web Services Gateway to define a service

Role : Team Member.
Environment : IBM Mainframe, Cobol, PL/1, IMS DB/DC, JCL, VSAM, and DB2.
Description :
NICAM/BAC/TCSS/MCOR/LCAS is a collection of 6 applications, generally called as BAC+ application. Each of the application has its own functionality and identity.
NICAM system is Network Interface Customer Account Maintenance, that collects, assembles, and formats network requests for denial and restoral of AT&T long distance services. Both business and residence accounts are processed and the processing cost of this application is $70,000 per month (apx). For NICAM, the system interface(s) are TCSS, TOPAS, PTR, RAMP, CBIS, CCMS/MMFS, EUR, and CAS/OSS.
BAC system is Billing and Collections system, that performs inquiry and adjustment services for specific types of accounts. CBIS (Cincinnati Bell Information Systems) is contracted to bill these specific types of accounts on behalf of AT&T Types of accounts billed by CBIS for AT&T include Business AT&T Card, Execubill Card, Teletravel, Alascom Residence Calling Card, Alternate Billing Calling Card and Advanced 800. BAC also supports inquiry only functions for DirecTV equipment billing.
CBIS consists of the following Subsystems:
Account Inquiry
Adjustments
Adjustment Approval
Account Changes
Archival/Retrieval
Reports
Number Change (The Number Change jobs ensure the appropriate databases and customer account files are updated to reflect telephone number changes.)
Update (The CBIS Update subsystem of the Billing and Collections (BAC) system performs update procedures for the Collections Interface, CBIS Bill Detail, CBIS Daily, Adjustments, etc. databases used by the Inquiry and Collections system.)
TCSS system is Tele Collections Sub System that performs revenue collection functions for AT&T’s Business P-card accounts. P-card accounts are those accounts who only use AT&T for calling-card purposes, and do not have any hard-wired lines which are serviced by AT&T. TCSS treats only ‘P’ accounts, which are stand-alone calling card accounts. TCSS is dependent on information from the CBIS biller. Needs to treat different types of accounts in different ways were addressed in the initial design of TCSS by building in flexibility through the use of tables. TCSS is highly table driven; tables define the way an account is set up and treated in Collections. The need to treat different types of accounts within the same service was addressed in the system through account type code. Account type code serves to help categorize the work to be done for the users of TCSS.
MCOR system is Mechanized Correspondence that performs revenue collection correspondence functions for AT&T’s Business P-card accounts (TCSS version), and for AT&T’s other services (CCMS version). MCOR interfaces with TCSS and CCMS to create customer specific data letters. This system provides a method for creating and sending reminder letters to customers concerning an account payment problem. To utilize MCOR, the user enters online letter requests for particular accounts. These requests, along with pertinent payment and credit information, are stored on the Online Letter Request Database.
LCAS system is LEC Casual Adjustment System that provides compact inquiry and adjustment functions to the casual usage accounts customer (a customer that did not choose AT&T as its long distance carrier). When a casual usage customer disputes an item on their bill, they call an AT&T customer service line and explain to the representative what the dispute is. The user provides basic search criteria for the calls to be adjusted and LCAS attempts to match those criteria to EMI data, which is sorted and stored in each RPC.
