The SAP AFE module is the first of its kind in the Oil and Gas industry and also with SAP as a corporation. It was developed as an application solution with SAP CVP (SAP Customer Value Projects) Team. The project involved developing an integrated workflow approval process to Authorize project funds commitment and expenditures. I was tasked as the Husky Project Manager and Solution Architect for the solution.

My role included:

oProject Manager to manage time, schedule, cost and timely delivery of the solution within various environments. Reviewing and technically approving all Change Requests, time and expenses incurred by SAP on the project

oDeveloped the end-to-end business process design for AFE approval process for the whole organization with the use of SAP HR, IM, PS, JV, SAP Portal, and SAP Workflow.

The “Vanilla Sky” project implementation project is tasked with the re-implementation of SAP with standard business processes and technology. The solution would be delivered with the latest SAP technology (SAP ECC6.0 EHP6 Technology). The Financial Solution Center serves as the center for business and technology support for Husky Finance group. The team is responsible for all SAP updates and new business improvement initiatives. I implemented various initiatives and projects which included (not limited to):

oSunrise conversion from one Company code to another to facilitate Partnership agreements

oDesign of the GR/IR validation process before a WBS element or PM order can be closed. This ensures GR/IR clearing are done on time and within the system.

Role

The Sunrise program is a $2.5 billion Joint Venture program (phase 1) with about 9 business functions to deliver a new business unit for Husky Energy Inc. Cost Management development was identified as a ‘high risk’ during the gate review process. The challenge posed with Cost Management is to plan, manage, and control costs so that the Sunrise Oil Sands Program (SOSP) can be completed within the approved budget. Cost Management is the part of Program Controls that focuses on defining, planning, monitoring, tracking, trending, forecasting, controlling, and managing the overall Program-related costs. Cost Management is active and involved from the very early stages of Program identification through Program Close.

My role included:

oDevelopment of the Cost Management plan for the Sunrise Program towards Sanction (Approval)

oAligned the Project execution plan for each function with the Sunrise Program Execution Strategy

oDesign the SAP IM, PS, JV and CO requirement to effectively manage the program by function

oRe-designed the Investment management structure to provide the portfolio view / reports for the program for budget, plan, cost and forecast management

oDeveloped the SAP Project WBS / Cost center hierarchies design and structures to manage the Sunrise program to facilitate efficient Joint venture approvals, cost management and reporting

oDeveloped a mapping structure to manage data flow between Kildrummy and SAP

The project is challenged with implementing a solution that provides an opportunity to streamline the Enterprise Capital Management process. The current Capital Management process and AFE / cost controlling process are cumbersome, time-consuming and require significant overhead. In addition, there are a considerable number of business units across the organization that use the source data and have competing reporting requirements especially when Joint Venture projects are involved.

I was brought into the Financial Solution Center specifically to provide guidance to streamline the process and systems design

oConfiguration and development of enhancement to Project Systems and Investment Management

oDesigned a new process, governance strategy for project structuring into programs which would reduce the number of AFE’s raised by a 45% overall (30% for Drilling and Completions only) with an efficiency gain in time of about 50% within creation, review and approval workflows

oAligned new design and processes to effectively manage Joint Venture cutback process and billing with JIBLink

oProvided a solution for multi-level settlement within project structure. This will reduce the number of AUC Asset created by 80% while providing efficiency with Asset Team processes

oWorked on specification for reports that might be affected with new process while providing more standard reporting capabilities within SAP to manage projects.

oAlso developed a Long term Project Management strategy that employs the use of other functionalities such as Earned Value Analysis

Project challenge:

The objective of this project is to assist asset teams in a directorate of the organization to successfully embed the organizational values by:

Measuring the level of awareness of the values within the asset teams

Creating a common understanding of the Transformation required

Developing a joint commitment to making this transformation happen.

Role:

Conducted interviews with the company’s executives and management staff, conducted surveys and coordinated data gathering effort during the project

Developed content materials for presentations and training

Responsible for coordinating logistics, meetings and workshops

Set performance milestones and developed remedial action plans with the client
