Set Top Box Project Management Certified ScrumMaster®
DirecTV / AT&T El Segundo, California January 2016 – December 2018
•Analyze and complete Director level reports to measure team effort on a quarterly basis and project testing expenses for the next quarter / year. These reports are presented to the CTO of the AT&T Entertainment Group to accurately breakdown the resource effort of the entire Entertainment Group.
•Created a completely new process to project allocated monthly hours and scheduling for the 186 resources within the NEL STB team; eventually teaching the process to other departments and teams.
•As a ScrumMaster, I aided the team in jumpstarting the conversion process from a Waterfall methodology to an Agile process.
One of the major roadblocks encountered during the transformation was removing the notion of traditional Artifacts and replacing them with a Product Backlog where the Product Owners and executives could create User Stories that they would like to include in upcoming Sprints.
To work out impediments in ticket accountability, I engineered a new process in JIRA to triage and track issues to improve the quality of increments and products released by each sprint and to customers in the field. This process resulted in reducing the number of ‘Executive Level’ issues released to customers by 50% each year and was adopted by other teams and vendor groups.
After being given the management of the vendor team, QAnalyst, to improve efficiencies and the value of their testing output, burndown charts coupled with Scrum boards to track accountability during each iteration were introduced to the team. After their implementation, they were able to increase their overall velocity by ~20%.
•Compile and deliver semi-annual Encryption reports pertaining to HW and SW that are exported from the United States to the US Dept. of Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS), National Security Agency (NSA), and the Global Trade Organization (GTO) to ensure they are in compliance with determined specifications and encryption protocols.
•Act as the final stopgap for the release of code to customers by liaising between all departments involved with build deployment and implementation (Production, EPMO, Field, NEL, SWE, Care, etc.) and ensuring everyone is in agreement with the level of ‘done’ for current sprints and Go-No-Go releases.
•Facilitated the planning and development of AT&T Consumer Premise HW products and SW releases in Microsoft Project while managing responsible stakeholders, tracking project schedules, and hosting key meeting to ensure that projects are completed within their designated Time Boxes.
Received personal congratulations from the CTO for completing development and releasing manufacturing SW for the HS17. By working with the various AT&T and vendor teams and enforcing them to adhere to a strict Time Box schedule, I was able to pull in the release schedule, saving the team $1,000,000 in SW development costs. As a direct result of this, the AT&T Supply Chain was able to begin its transition for customers earlier than projected and at faster rates. At the current consumer consumption, procurement cost savings are estimated at $5,000,000 in 2019 alone.
Received special acknowledgement from the CTO for my facilitation of communication between the Development Teams, Product Owners, and various stakeholders via an emphasis on transparency to unveil impediments and guiding the teams that were not familiar with Scrum methodologies to launch the C61W: a reduced cost wireless client that enhances customer experience with faster, longer ranged HW, and a more reliable signal.
Received similar recognition from the CTO for my role in overseeing and facilitating the QA Test and HW teams and completing last minute Executive Requests to qualify the new NAND flash C61R2-500 client with an alternate vendor. This mitigated supply risk posed by the previous vendor and allowed the company to continue production without any additional overhead or interruptions.
