-Dual sport NCAA Student-Athlete on Division 1 Swim and Dive teams. Team Captain.

Experience

Biology and Environmental:

-Capstone project: Microplastics in aquatic environments

oResearched plastics breakdown to determine consequences to animal and human health. Reported on human health implications of harmful microplastic ingestion by way of drinking water and the food chain.

-Conservation: Single use plastics usage in athletics

oResearched consumption of plastics across 13 athletic programs. Identified and advised Athletics Chair on eco-friendly alternatives to reduce waste by estimated 80%. Delivered a cost and ROI analysis.

-Publication Support: Genetic Plant Productivity Yield Research

oAnalyzed soybean variations in pods for shape, quantity, color and texture. These were time critical assessments which were used to determine genetic alleles for future improved crop yields. Results will be shared with agriculture community.

-Data Conversion: Digitized herbarium data

oRe-mounted approximately 5,000 plant specimens that were 60-80 years old onto acidic free paper. Key data was added, then digitally photographed, cataloged and uploaded to a research database, enabling educational institutions to access historical research data.

Leadership:

-Team Captain: VMI Division I Swim and Dive Team 2018-2020:

oLed team of 45 swimmers and 6 divers. Conducted preseason goal setting and weekly team progress meetings. Over 15 records were set and became most improved team in NCAA.

oManaged budget of $15,000. Assisted with team travel logistics including lodging and meals.

oRecruitment of new NCAA Student-Athletes. Led and participated in recruited swimmer and diver overnight visits resulting in new commitments.

-VMI Diving Program: Key to reinstatement of dive program after a multi-year hiatus

oEncouraged head swim coach to allow diving and began scoring at dive meets. This led to the hiring of a Diving Coach as well as recruitment of divers to create a full men’s and women’s team. Two-time winner of America East Diver of the Week award.

-Student Mentorship

oLed, trained and advised freshman cadets on the rigors of the VMI ratline. Created study schedules and duties charts. Saw a 100% success in retainment on advised cadets.

Employment

Archipelagos Institute of Marine Conservation • Samos, Greece • Summer 2019

Summer internship focused on multidisciplinary scientific research and marine conservation to help form basis and data for VMI Capstone project on microplastics in marine environments.

-Daily collection and categorization of plastics onshore and in coastal shallows. Categorized plastics according to type and levels of degradation, which enabled analysis and charting of distributions.

-Working with Archipelagos laboratory, analyzed microplastics ingestion in deceased marine mammals. Correlated findings with data collected from onshore and coastal shallows which helped the institute formulate marketing campaigns targeting reductions in commonly consumed plastics.

-Supported the Directory of Marine Mammal research paper on “A Cost-Efficient Standardised Methodology for Microplastics Analysis” by way of efforts around collection and categorization.

-To maintain catalogs of biodiversity, participated in shore based and vessel-based observation of Marine Mammal sightings to develop population densities. This assisted the Institute in campaigns with regional governmental bodies to develop management and conservations programs.

-Assisted Graduate research project to collect and transcribe cetacean echolocation data thru use of towed hydrophone array and recordings, which assisted with studies of populations.

Assistant Swim and Dive Coach & Lifeguard • Vienna Woods Swim and Tennis Club & High Point Swim and Tennis Club • Vienna & Mclean Virginia • Summers 2014-2019

Planned and Led Daily early morning Swim Team Practices. Managed weekend meets and organized pep rallies

-Team ages ranged from 6 to 18 with 225 swimmers. Division winner in 2018 setting pool records and sending over 13 participants to NVSL individual and relay All Stars. Team sportsmanship award winner in 2015 and 2017.

-Developed meet lineups by analyzing opponents’ capabilities by age and stroke to maximize point totals. Tracked swimmer progress by capturing time data and developed plans with individual swimmers for targets. Conducted stroke and turn clinics to help with finer points of racing. Also hired for private swim lessons. Winter swim clinics were held weekly for 50 younger swimmers.

-Collaborated with Club Board Members pre-season and in-season on swim and dive program goals and progress. Met with parents of swimmers for opportunities for improvement and/or praise.

-Lifeguard with Red Cross Certification. Assisted pool manager with development of weekly work schedules of over 28 lifeguards. Assisted with entry of payroll hours. Performed water quality chemical testing.
