PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Personal consulting, contract Dunlap, Illinois
2005 - present
At the request of the executive board of a major, progressive church with a membership of over 750, developed a complete employee handbook for all church and pre-school employees (45). As a church, they are exempt from many employment laws, but at my urging, they adopted the handbook I produced, which complied with all Illinois and federal employment laws. A complete set of compliant job descriptions were also written and adopted.
Consulted to several companies in the areas of Affirmative Action Plan development, OFCC compliance, personnel policy development, safety plan writing, job description development, salary benchmarking, employee relations programming, and overall human resources best practices implementation. I conducted classes on AAP compliance, sexual harassment, conflict resolution techniques, leadership assessment and skills development, key employee identification, and succession planning.
My years with Adeptus Corporation included all the HR planning for a startup company. I did all the staffing projections, policy development, job description creation, HR training needs assessment, etc. These responsibilities required that I keep current on all employment laws, policies, and current methodologies.

Scanivalve Corp. Liberty Lake, Washington (previously located in California)
Jan 1988-Jan2001
Human Resources Manager
Scanivalve Corporation is the world’s foremost designer and manufacturer of high speed pressure
and temperature instrumentation systems, and relevant software. Scanivalve has its main offices in
Liberty Lake, WA, and an office in San Diego, CA, and one in the UK. Scanivalve was located in
San Diego, CA until 1995.
Tasked with bringing the company’s HR functions, process, and policies into compliance with federal and state laws and regulations.
Finding a situation in which the company had neither congruent, nor compliant personnel policies, researched local, state, and federal employment laws. Designed a process by which a complete set of policies could be developed. Wrote the personnel policy handbook, and submitted it to the local employers’ association for their attorney’s evaluation as to its legal compliance.
Once approved, the employee handbook was distributed to every employee, and training was instituted as to compliance.
An audit by the EEOC showed that the company did not have an Affirmative Action Report or Plan on file, which would result in the loss of 40% of domestic sales, (U.S. Government sales). Within 30 days, researched, analyzed developed and implemented affirmative action plan/report. Obtained EEOC approval on the first submission, preventing that sales loss.
A significant job of change management had to be undertaken. Scanivalve had been in business for many years, and had many employees who had been with them 20+ years. As I brought the HR function, and therefore the complete workforce into compliance, I had to work with many individuals and each department, to break down the existing inertia, and develop “buy in” to the new way of doing business. I had to explain why the change had to be made, without denigrating these long time, well intentioned employees, develop in them the desire to change, assist them in the acquisition of change skills, and reinforce their new behaviors in order to sustain the changes. This process was lengthy, detailed, and required many hours of time dealing with individuals and departments in a one on one setting, as well as in small group training sessions.
Researched and selected the group insurance carrier for the corporate benefit plans, including Medical, Rx, Dental, 125 plan. Negotiated with the carriers leading to the signing of contracts.
Performed an annual evaluation of the contract prior to renewal.
Administered the group health plan. Ensured each employee fully understood the components of the plan, and assisted each one when they had questions or problems.
Wrote a complete set of job descriptions which complied with all applicable federal and state laws.
Developed and maintained the complete HR records system, including all requirements for filing the EEO-1 report annually, employee injury reports, etc.
Contracted with outside financial planners leading to the established an employee flex spending plan.

Contracted for, and oversaw the development and implementation of an HRIS.
Developed a complete employee safety plan, including appropriate training and handbooks. Worked with all government agencies ensuring compliance with all safety and health requirements.
Using the available federal MSA data, and contracts from other employers, performed a complete salary review of all employees, and tied all salaries to those data.
Developed, or caused to be presented employee training programs on various topics including, but not limited to sexual harassment, cultural sensitivity, first aid, safety practices, etc.
Developed the first employee personnel policy handbook and the necessary training programs for employees leading to its implementation and enforcement
Contracted for, and oversaw the operations of a private security company to secure the facility.
