Work History

2019-09 -

2019-12

Reliability Engineering Co-Op

Cummins Inc., Columbus, IN

• Predicting behavior of new products based on

understanding parent programs through statistical life data analysis in Weibull++ software package.

• Partnered with cross-functional teams to verify robust design of a system using proactive process tools including FMEA and mathematical modelling to calculate failure probabilities.

• Developed Excel VBA tools to automatically estimate launch failures expected in products based on parent data

• Worked with 30 functional leaders to understand existing processes of information flow across various functions.

• Developed standard communication procedure and

content for reliability input in various cross functional forums.

2017-12 -

2018-03

Product Design Intern

Cummins Inc, Pune, Maharashtra, India

• Completed root cause analysis to evaluate failure modes to help optimize performance.

• As a current product design engineer investigated and resolved customer complaints to foster satisfaction

• Completed design optimization of a flywheel housing through an iterative process of CAD modelling and

structural finite element analysis with a top-down approach of problem solving.

• Researched competitive solutions and maintained

competitive market comparisons and evaluations.

Education

2018-09 -

2020-05

Master of Science: Mechanical Engineering

University of Wisconsin – Madison

2014-07 -

2018-07

Bachelor of Science: Mechanical Engineering

SASTRA University - Thanjavur, Tamilnadu, India

Projects

• Formula Student Racing Team (FSAE)

o Manufacturing Engineer – Responsible for design of Fixtures and manufacturing of suspension components of the vehicle

o Powertrain Engineer - Responsibilities include setting up powertrain for maximum advantage in torque and power based on lap Sims for endurance running of the vehicle. o Design and manufacturing of chain-sprocket drive and lever type gear change mechanism. o Inventory management responsibility for the Racing team involving purchasing and logistics o Played an instrumental role in preparing Bill Of Materials and Cost report.

• Manufacturing Trainee (Shanmuga Precision Forgings) o Involved in High volume Manufacturing processes in a facility. o Hands on experience on working with various departments including design, Forging, Finishing, Machining, Metrology, packaging and SCM.

• Building a clean sheet IC Engine using Ricardo Wave (Course Project) o Building an engine in Ricardo wave software package from scratch for a motorsport application in bikes. Various Parameters including valve timings, runner length and ignition timings were varied for RPMs and results were analyzed.

• Study of Auto-Ignition characteristics of straight chain and Benzene based hydrocarbons in an IC Engine (Course Project)

o Mechanisms for Various hydrocarbons were modelled in CHEMKIN-ANSYS software and the knock characteristics were observed for various fuels. The model showed good results with the literature and butyl-based hydrocarbons showed better anti-knock characteristics and could be considered as a surrogate fuel for Iso-Octane at RON operation.

• Solar Based Vapor Absorption Refrigeration system idea (Course Project) o After literature review, a theoretical model of a Vapor absorption cycle with NH3-water coolant is designed to use solar power for a refrigeration system to store food in a walk-in-refrigerator. Engineering Equation software is used for this work.

• Engine pressure tracing and CFD simulation to confirm Performance characteristics (Course Project) o 4 different experiments including intake air pressure, spray imaging, pressure tracing in chamber and RPM tracing are done and results are modelled in CFD (Converge CFD Package) to understand accuracy of CFD simulations.

Achievements and Extra-curriculars

• Dean’s Merit Scholarship for Academic Excellence: (Under graduation) 2015,2017,2018

• 1-year Industrial Training at a Manufacturing Facility (Shanmuga Precision Forgings) as part of curriculum

• Participated in SAE-Aero design Challenge – Building an RC aircraft for Surveillance

• Member of SAE collegiate club – Instrumental in organizing workshops and forums to disseminate knowledge on Vehicle design.

• Student Supervisor – Wisconsin Union – supervise kitchen with student employees and also handle accounts and purchasing for Union South Kiosks.

• Developed proximity sensor using Arduino MC as part of course project
