Relevant Experience:
In a couple of my past positions, I had on an almost daily basis, experience utilizing machine tools (lathe, Mill, vert/horz band saws, drill press, taps/dies, brakes, shears ect.) I have purchased my own lathe and mill to have these tools available at home for my own projects from design, development and manufacturer. I also have experience welding, and own both MIG and TIG welders. I have also extensively used basic hand tools. I believe the knowledge and experience using a large range of tools
(from hammer to a CNC) makes for a better engineered end result in my professional capacity, with fewer iterations. Having designed it, fabricated the parts and assembled it, I have learned firsthand the end value of designing for manufacturability
(DFM) as well as assembly (DFA).
I have worked with consumer level as well as OEM manufacturers to provide part design as well as processes and equipment for production. I have built and tested prototypes including test gear that did not previously exist, myself, with an extremely limited budget (Ideation, Design, Machining, Fabrication/Welding, Assembly, Testing of the finished product and Initial implementation.
The hands on knowledge, and the design intent of the various designs I have completed often led to leading the build of the projects that I had just completed the engineering phase on. Having "been there, done that" with machining process as well as the fabrication I have done in my own life often puts me in the position of technical lead by default, not always in corporate title, but in the culture of the people who need to do the work to complete the project. Letter of Recommendation
To whom it may concern:
I am a Project Engineer at Rockwell Automation. Greg was a contract engineer on my project and took direction from me. Greg was responsible for mechanical development of new design in Pro/Engineer. He created complete and detailed CAD models required of all parts and assemblies. He was responsible for generating specifications, performing design analysis, and all design documentation as well as working with suppliers. He created designs for sheet metal, formed or molded parts, extrusions, and other mechanical assemblies. He sourced and qualified new parts and performed piece part cost estimation. He applied model and tolerance analysis to ensure proper fit and function. He performed verification of analyses by empirically testing in the Physical Test and Shock and Vibration Laboratories. He made design decisions on his own as well as part of the engineering team. He worked with our Enterprise Product Data Management (EPDM) system SAP. He has good written and oral communication skills and provided input to other design engineers via design reviews and project meetings. Overall I was very pleased with Greg’s performance, in fact we were able to apply for a patent based on a design concept and input from Greg.
He worked very well with the various other departments to design, assemble, and test proto-types. He also worked with vendors and purchasing to procure parts for the project.
Greg was very dependable, often finishing tasks ahead of time with limited input. He has a great can do attitude and is willing to take on any tasks. I would highly recommend Greg.
Sincerely,
