Summer Internship Project 2017
Company/Institution: HPCL-Mittal Energy Limited, Bathinda, Punjab. Duration: 12th June 2017 – 12th July 2017.
Description: A brief study on Basic Refining Operations at HMEL, Bathinda and a detailed study on Delayed Coking Unit at HMEL, Bathinda. A 9MMTPA plant which underwent expansion to a new capacity of 11.3MMTPA in the year 2017. It has a DCU capacity of 2.7 MMTPA and is the 5th largest refinery in India.

Description: A total of two projects which were; reliability of Oil Absorption Machine and increasing its Cp and Cpk and the other project was on customer complaint gapping and RCA of the same. The largest producer of carbon black in India, PCBL is world’s 7th largest Carbon Black producer with an annual production of about 472,000 MT annually. The carbon black is used in tyres, plastics, inks and various other daily commodities. PHILLIPS CARBON BLACK LIMITED (August 2019 – till date) Highlights:
Working on-ground as well as with automation panel gaining exposure in various processes and equipment handling
Focusing on achieving maximum production keeping all the quality affecting factors in control
Man power handling and maintaining harmonious interactions between ground staff as well as panel staff
Bridging ideas within senior levels and junior levels for effective solutions on day to day problems.
Working as a part of Daily Management Team taking care of equipments in a particular area in the field and attending to the periodic maintenance of equipments such as compressors and pumps.
Maintaining daily stock in SAP and daily production for process reliability study
DCS Panel Operation in co-ordination with quality assurance team for online process improvement.
SPC and Cp-Cpk analysis on regular basis for each carbon black grade being produced
Regular inter-department meeting for DMT and continual improvement of plant culture and working ethics
Currently working with production as well as projects team for DCS development for upcoming expansion of two lines
Commissioning of inline oil blending system for minimization of errors and improvement of process with dynamic control over blended oil ratios
Rotary Dryer (160 TPD operating capacity)
o Fuel - Flue gas produced alongside Carbon Black production o Mode of heating – Indirect heating
o Operating parameters – 600-780 DegC shell temperature, 120-190 DegC product temperature, 30 min residence time
