Specific Responsibilities

Monitor patient’s physiological responses to therapy, such as vital signs, arterial blood gases, and blood chemistry changes, and consult with physician if adverse reactions occur.

Read prescription, measure arterial blood gases, and review patient information to assess patient condition.

Work as part of a team of physicians, nurses and other health care professionals to manage patient care in critical stages.

Enforce safety rules and ensure careful adherence to physician’s orders.

Maintain charts that contain patient’s pertinent identification and therapy information.

Inspect, clean, test and maintain respiratory therapy equipment to ensure equipment is functioning safely and efficiently, ordering repairs when necessary. 2

Educate patients and their families about their conditions and teach appropriate disease management techniques, such as breathing exercises and the use of medications and respiratory equipment.

I have handle to do Pulmonary Function Test for patients, I was trained to instruct the patients for the different breathing patterns to complete the test.

I have also handled to do Pulmonary Rehab for patients who have Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), to lessen the possible signs and symptoms of the disease.

We also extract arterial Blood gas, and relay blood analysis to the physicians.

Explain treatment procedures to patients to gain cooperation and allay fears.

Our daily routine is to nebulize all admitted or even incoming patients in the hospital, and we also do assessments to see if there are some improvements since the first dose of the medication was given, and right it down for the physicians to see.

Explain Lung expansion therapy such as Incentive Spirometry and Lung flute.
